When I say live, I meant on TV, how was a 14 year old going to get to Lisbon in 67.

Saw it live too, at 13. great game but Inter were very physical as I recall. Shame as they had some gifted players. Celtic deserved it though for keeping patient and waiting for their opportunity. Good old Tommy Gemmell.

I was 1 Year old in 1967, but I still consider that Celtic team as the 1st British team to conquer Europe.

And the last to be a truly representative, local team To win anything of significance.

I'd vote for them as my favourite team ever - although I have little knowledge of the individual players.

Barnet,
Frank Worthington he was some player .

I saw Frank play for Leicester against Spurs. He had great talent. he along with Matt Le Tissier were some of the last English players of the Corinthian spirit, a few pints and a cigar before the game, out on the town after.

Not exactly true... red star belgrade were all home bred when they won in 1991 although maybe not quite so local.

Who would have believed Pat Nevin would get a mention in a thread on the greatest footballer ever!
If he is on their what about Chic Charnley

Paul Gascoigne 1996 - oh please noooo

People not mentioned but deserving one are - Bobby Charlton (What a shot!) and Stanley Matthews (Giggs at 38? still got 14 years left to match Matthews)

Plus a young Michael Owen.. only joking !!

I've always had a niggling doubt about Pele. Sure he was an all time great...but the best? He looked awesome in 1970, but then he had awesome teammates (for me the best ever team, in the best ever World Cup) But there was something, just that little something, about George Best.

The fact that Pele played in great teams actually supports his claim to be the best – it’s harder to get into a team if everyone else in the squad is also brilliant. But that is what he did over four World Cups, winning three.

It’s hard to directly compare Pele with Best (or the more usual comparison with Maradona) because their playing styles were very different.

Pele was never on the ball long enough for you to remember, you only remember the pass or the goal that resulted from his 2 seconds on the ball before he “got rid of it”. This was how he played, by deliberate choice – in his biography he explains how he was taught that dribbling was a bad habit!
