I can’t help think that some sellers on eBay and other marketplace sources (including here) think buyers are stupid. The number of times a product is described as ‘fantastic condition’ or similar when clearly it isn’t nearly anywhere as stated, beggars belief. AND they list it at a daft price.

I would never trust a purchase where clearly the seller is dishonest right from the offset.

Why do people do it?

(I don’t want to include examples for fear of inadvertently bulldust-shaming without reason. I can after all choose not to make a purchase, but others might not be as savvy :becool:)

I always wonder why people bother to sell dirty stuff. Really dirty stuff.
Recently there was an Ortlieb something or other on here that was really, really, dirty. Why not just wash it and present a better product?

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
People will hardly say "my product is absolute crap and is in an awful condition " if they want to sell it.

Money greed and thinking people are gullible may also be a factor.

I tend not to believe the rubbish people come out with. I very rarely buy anything that is used. The exception is my very Singer sewing machine that I bought a couple of months ago. :okay:

I have never bought anything from anyone on CC and my comments are not aimed at anyone in particular.

We've Ebayed about 150 items and always take care to post good clear photos showing the condition. The only time we had a problem was when Mrs Gti offered to eBay a Bianchi Via Nirone for a colleague. TNT delivered it with a hole smashed through the carton and the buyer's wife signed for it "in good condition". When he saw the wrecked condition of the bike the buyer went bonkers, blaming me. We agreed to take it back - shouldn't have done really - and had a battle with TNT over the cost of the repairs. In the end I shamed them into paying half the cost then resold the bike.

If you look for stuff on Amazon or EBay it's amazing the amount of stuff at really silly prices
My belief is that there are a load of sellers out there that do this deliberately, after all they only need one person to click "buy" and the process has paid for itself many times over

Printer cartridge for a thousand bucks, why not, it's probably worth $10

Ebay, Gumtree and FB marketplace are flooded with people trying in desperation to get something for nothing. But in their desperation they don't seem to have any patience either. I often see motorbikes for sale, the picture is taken at night an hardly shows the bike at all. "not desprate to sell so no stupid offers".

And one I see quite often that makes me laugh (due to the paradoxical nature of it): "baby on the way so no time to ride the bike, but will part-ex for better bike with MOT"

Also with the ludicrously high prices, they often change the price when they've run out of stock, rather than end the advert, and change the price back to sensible levels when new stock is on.

I keep getting this problem with my deliveries. Purchasing 2 items from the same seller by adding to basket then checking out and paying for both in one go. I opt for click and collect and they send one to my home address and one to the collection point! Any one else had this?

I've had mostly good experiences buying 2nd hand stuff online.

I buy a fair but of vinyl off Discogs but one recent purchase described the cover as 'near mint' but it had a very obvious coffee spill down both the front and back of it
