It turned up early at Bruntingthorpe or I was late so I never got to take a photo, in fact I never even got off the bike.

As I was going through Walton, the village about 1/2 mile away from the airfield, it was banking across the road, got a fantastic view of it as it came over, then it straightened up and headed directly away from me. :becool:

Well worth the ride up there. Gilmorton and Bruntingthorpe were heaving with people, Great fun coming back, there must have been hundreds of cars and I got to filter most of them ^_^

SIip-slidin' down Big Pig...
We were sat on the Chepstow side of the Severn Bridge. The Vulcan came from behind us, crossed the river and headed onto Staverton, I think.
Brilliant, we all enjoyed it.

Wandered down to Wilmslow High School with the kids and my dad to watch from the school field as I thought Alderley Edge would be packed. The Vulcan came right over our heads then banked and went off to Woodford, came back about 5 minutes later. No one else there apart from a few kids playing football, couldn't have picked a better place.
we went to woodford (good ride from macc with my 13 year old son), surprised to see so many folk.

whs is where i attended school at my son's age, and used to see all manner of interesting aircraft going in and out of woodford; lots of nimrods, the guppy and c130s galore…

Roger that, the Victor looked like some kind of beast unleashed by. the devil. If Operation Black Buck had been able to use Victors instead of Vulcans the Argentinians wouldnt merely have soiled themselves - they've have gone running straight home.
Victors were used on Black Buck, as tankers.

Saw it over Cheltenham this afternoon

Brings back memories of watching them as a kid at RAF Wyton

You could literally feel their power

Saw her come over Tilbury Fort and banking along the Thames to start the Kent loop.
What a wonderful aircraft.
So pleased I saw her.
Rest in peace XH558. God bless all the men who crewed the Vulcan fleet.

why is it camouflage on the underside?
Re-assigned to low level bomber after the Soviets developed anti aircraft missliles capable of reaching the Vulcans altitude.
Night time /day time ?...camoflage the underside, daytime you increase its chances of not getting seen, night time, doesnt matter anyway.

Because the MOD , rightly, converted then to tankers to extend the useful life when it was apparent that a nuclear launch platform of aircraft was redundant.

Vulcan 607 by Roland White is a great book. The refuelling plan is a work of genius , but sadly wasn't as good as could have been as the aircraft were using more fuel than calculated. Very close call for some of them, and pot luck it was 607 that went to drop the first lot ordnance.
