Zardoz was underrated if you ask me.

Actually this clip is better.

Rewatched it recently thinking the same thing.

It's actually terrible.

Apparently, in the show they only crashed one Eagle that was the big 44 inch model and it duly got cleaned up, ready for crashing the next episode!.
Lol. I didn't mean the Andersons had infinite Eagles, I meant the the lunatics** did.

If this program had been intended for grown ups, a big theme would have been resource management. Anything you use up would be gone for good, anyone who died would not be replaced. So they'd be repairing and repurposing like mad and upskilling everyone so they wouldn't lose expertise. And while they may be nearly self sufficient in water, air and poop-grown potatoes, they will need to start creating penicillin at least. Contraception can be neglected as they had better start breeding.

But instead every week they explode things, but they are never short of vehicles, pilots and fuel. Kablooie!

** I assume lunatic is the correct name for residents of Moon Base Alpha.

There's a link between UFO & Space 1999. Apparently, a sequel series - UFO2- was on the cards, set ten years later with Shado expanding moonbase, but it never happened. Some of the pre-production design work evolved into that seen in Space 1999. Likewise in Star Trek, a planned series in the 70's morphed into the movies, with some of the scripts being dusted off for the Next Generation. And for the new show Discovery the ship design looks an awful lot like one proposed for the Enterprise back in the 70's.

An absolute classic and the book is also excellent.

The "re-imagining" looks like it might finally be going somewhere too, which I have my reservations about.

RE-imagine, Re-interpter, Re-boot and any other similar description translates as "I have no imagination, so I am going butcher a good film in the hopes that the piece of ordure that I produce will fool enough people who liked the original to cover the costs'

Perhaps I should have called this thread 'The 70's SciFi thread'

All good stuff though keep them dodgy effects coming.... surprised no one has mentioned Space 1999 or Blake's 7 yet  (last series... only redeeming feature is Glynis Barber pre Dempsey and Makepeace)

...or the deliciously evil Servalan
