Docs always made my feet stink, much prefer Suede 'desert boots' or baseball boots (Leather for preference but I have got 3 pairs of Canvas ones)

I've just bought these, as I fancied a pair of black loafers. Yes, black shoes are classed as being formal, but with tassle loafers having less to the vamp/top of the shoe than penny loafers have, they look even less formal than penny loafers and obviously Oxford or Derby lace ups.

I'll be saving the above shoes for late spring at the earliest. Not only as loafers aren't really a winter shoe, but mainly for the leather sole, slip danger. I might and probably will take them into a local Timpson's and get rubber or part rubber soles fitted, after my first slip incident.

I randomly picked up a pair of penny loafers in the Next sale yesterday. I have some other penny and tassle loafers but they both have leather soles so don't get worn so much. These were man made soles, not as nice (as expected with Next), but easily wearable. Heavy reduction too.

On the subject of loafers, I've also recently ordered a pair from the Next Sale. Does anybody have a suggestion for some invisible socks that will actually stay on? All the ones I've tried just seem to come off at the heel the minute I walk in them, including the ones with the little silicone pads in the heel. For obvious reasons I don't want to wear them without any sock at all but they look a bit rubbish with the top of trainer socks showing.

It looks like I bought the last pair, which somehow gives me a perverse sense of pleasure!😬https://cwmenswear.co.uk/collection...ck-leather-classic-tassel-loafer-size-12-only
They were probably the last ones in the 9.5 size. I often wonder about the adverts that say stuff like 'Five sold in the last hour, only 3 pairs left'. Then weeks later there are still 3 pairs left!😏

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
I'm a bit puzzled by this Dr Martens vs Solovair thing, because back in the day they were definitely the same thing. You bought docs, which said "oil, fat, acid petrol and alkalai resistant" in the sole, and somewhere, in the packaging or on the sole it said "Sole-of-air". It was a running joke at school - why are Doc Martens soles called "sole of air" and not "air sole"? (What do you expect from schoolboys? Wildean witticisms?)

The answer is presumably all to do with brand rights. Somebody bought one brand and someone else the other. Or maybe the v in solovair was a sneaky way to rip off the DM brand. They're probably all much of a muchness anyway, churned out from the same factory in the Far East.

Solovair used to make DMs under license. Then when DM moved overseas Solovair kept manufacturing under their own brand name and in the same factory in Northamptonshire.

Why do you want to hide your socks when wearing loafers? Loafers are meant to be worn with socks, whereas boat shoes are meant to be worn without socks. I have many socks in multi colours to wear with loafers. In fact loafers are the only shoes that show my socks off, so I choose socks for their look as much as their fit and how comfortable they will be, with loafer wearing in mind.
