My point being that although such as Fred Astaire would wear black and white Oxford Shoes for tap dancing, he wouldn't wear black and white brogue shoes as they aren't 'dainty' enough. Therefore brogues would be more practical, better for general wear etc.
Black and White shoes are never going to be practical or appropriate for general wear. They are clearly for posing.😏

I watch Charlie Veitch 'social media' videos. He constantly comments oh his and others 'expensive' trainers. Saying such as 'you seem to be admiring my ultra expensive trainers madam'! Then he says for his viewers sake such as 'you work hard, you spend hard'! Sometimes he tells us that his trainers were £180. Is £180 a lot to spend on footwear?! I think it depends on what that footwear is, what it's made from and where it's made. To me, man made fibre footwear, made in far away 'sweat shops' and not likely to last more than a year, means £180 is far too much to pay for them! Whereas quality leather traditional shoes, made in a factory in England, where the employees are well paid and looked after, knowing those shoes will last many years and unlike £180 trainers are easily repairable means give me the latter over the former anyday!!😉

I'm hoping to wear these two jackets for the first time next week, seeing as we finally have some summer weather forecast. I bought them just after new year's day, intending to save them for the summer. They had something like 40 percent off price, so I just had to have them! They are still in the box they arrived in. I didn't take them out, thinking why bother, wait until you are about to wear them. I know they will fit me, hence me not trying them on as I always order a 42 Long in Cordings jackets. I will post photos of the jackets after I've unboxed them, which should be soon. I can only post that single pic of the pink linen one, due to this page for some reason only accepting that photo of the jacket.

I always rather liked co-respondant shoes but never quite had the nerve. There was a pair of tan and white Crockett & Jones for a reasonable £250 ( they would be £600 new) on fleabay, but whilst a "bargain" it's still a lot of dosh for a very occasional wear, and cheap ones don't really appeal. Those Herring ones seem OK as they're Goodyear welted albeit presumably not from Northamton.

It’s easy to spend over £180 on a pair of trainers, To me £200 or so on a pair of New Balance 1500 or 576 trainers is money well spent, subdued colours, light, comfortable, well made in England, and repairable. Other English trainers are available, some even through Herring’s website, Goral I believe.

I can’t be bothered looking up those particular shoes, but Herrings tell us that some of their shoes are indeed made by Northampton makers like Barkers, Cheaney and others, depending on the right maker and price for that style.
Edit, the brogues shown above are listed as from Portugal, no slouches when it comes to shoe making. Remember, shoes weren’t invented in Northants, and Shock, Horror, Goodyear welting is an American invention.
