Supertramp does it for me, especially Crime of the Century, which is just about the perfect album. And middle-period Pink Floyd.

I don’t think there has ever been a more perfectly produced album than Crime of the Century.
Pink Floyd on the other hand total tripe. And Mason, nice guy an all that, but has the timing of a sloth.

Umaguma is the only Floyd album that I have never been able get on with. I just don't understand it. All the other albums, even up to the later ones that Dave Gilmore had the control over are very good. IMHO

I've never thought much of Genesis, but 'prefect production' just sucks all the soul out of music in my opinion. Almost never listen to studio recordings, much prefer the freshness of live music.

The only two mentioned, so far, the I haven't seen Live are Bowie and Supertramp (were they even Prog Rock?)

If you watch the Supertramp live in Paris DVD...they play pretty much the same as on the studio recording.

That puts me right off listening to them - I don't think I've ever listened to 'Supertramp'. I know the Grateful Dead's material inside out, but sometimes I hear something on a live recording and have no idea which song it is for the first minute or more - and I play in a Dead tribute band!

I know it's an unpopular view but I think Syd leaving was the best thing that ever happened to the Floyd

Bath and Wells Festival of blues and progressive music

This, apart from the free Hyde Park concerts, was my first big music festival..
I think it was about £5 for the weekend

Edit: Pink Fairies and Hawkwind set up their own gig in a neighbouring field... Happy, hippy days

Never really got on with the proper proggers such as ELP, Yes, Genesis and the likes.... love a bit of Tull though, and Gong, and Hawkwind, but they're folk-rock, space-rock and whatever niche Gong belong in... teapot-rock, maybe?

Are Spinal Tap progressive... Jazz Odyssey was out there.

I still love Gong, just don't need to play the CDs anymore as it's all in my head, I can lie back and listen to it anywhere.
