I've mentioned it, be it here, on in the model railway thread
I pass over the bridge that the photograph was taken from every working day
Unless, I ride through the woods/along the river bank, which the line can be seen going along in the background

'Henbury' working at the Bristol Harbourside this weekend, ferrying passengers between the M Shed & the S.S. Great Britain.

No photos unfortunately, but just now on leaving Doncaster there was the rare sight of a class 70 Powerhaul loco (70007) and then a class 43 (I think) pulling some freight trucks with half a dozen new Newcastle Metro carriages in the middle - some already graffitied.

Bristol Parkway this morning ...

68005 + 68009 pulling the Nuclear train.

66721 + 66780 top and tailing an aggregates train.

66502 + 66551 in the sidings.

@Spartak - I see there are some major rail works happening in the Bristol Parkway/Filton Abbey Wood/Severn Tunnel area over the next few weeks. We've had overnight preparation works happening already for the last three weekends at Abbey Wood.

No photos unfortunately, but just now on leaving Doncaster there was the rare sight of a class 70 Powerhaul loco (70007) and then a class 43 (I think) pulling some freight trucks with half a dozen new Newcastle Metro carriages in the middle - some already graffitied.

Makes sense. New unit being dead hauled (from the docks?) to the depot, with some match wagons in the rake for braking purposes, as the units probably won't be compatible with air brake system.

Not too sure why they needed 2 locos.

Bit of a bad description by me - the Powerhaul was a stand alone sighting and I thought they'd all been mothballed, then separately there was the class 43 hauling the wagons & Metro units.

They have a nice sound, but are a bit too modern for me these days.

Driving past Denham's scrapyard just outside Shildon last night I spied a low loader heading back up the road, sure enough there was a old Metro unit sat awaiting it's fate. Most of the withdrawn units are being scrapped there, but that's the first time I've seen one despite driving / cycling past the place regularly. Passing again this morning it was gone . 4010 according to someone on RailUk forum. Still, progress marches on with the flow of new units arriving. There's also been an announcement today of £1.8BN for extending the line from Pelaw down through Washington to South Hylton. This is a view of the overgrown trackbed coming down from Pelaw, taken on an early March ride along the Bowes Railway path.

Wasn't part of the Metro system cut off recently? I vaguely remember a bridge being damaged or condemned?

It was the section under the Gateshead flyover that was closed briefly before Christmas, with the Metros not being allowed to run through the tunnel beneath it. They were running again by the end of the year after the flyover was stabilised with props. The flyover has been condemned and is going to be demolished by the end of this year apparently.

I had a mental image of a road held up by bits of wood with a notch cut in the top for a clothes line...
