Driving past Denham's scrapyard just outside Shildon last night I spied a low loader heading back up the road, sure enough there was a old Metro unit sat awaiting it's fate. Most of the withdrawn units are being scrapped there, but that's the first time I've seen one despite driving / cycling past the place regularly. Passing again this morning it was gone

. 4010 according to someone on RailUk forum. Still, progress marches on with the flow of new units arriving. There's also been an announcement today of £1.8BN for extending the line from Pelaw down through Washington to South Hylton. This is a view of the overgrown trackbed coming down from Pelaw, taken on an early March ride along the Bowes Railway path.
