I never knew this about George Jackson Churchward:

"Sadly, Churchward was killed near his house on the misty morning of 19th December 1933. He was hit by “Castle” class 4085 “Berkeley Castle” with Driver Griffiths was hauling the late-running 8.55 a.m. Paddington to Fishguard express. He was seen bending down inspecting what he thought was a track defect and was struck by the locomotive’s buffer. Some reports say he had glaucoma affecting his eyesight, vertigo and defective hearing. He may have thought the express had already passed as living next to the line he kept an active interest in the passing trains."

A use of ash from steam locomotived I never knew was shown on the Yorkshire edition of Look North with it being shovelled into a canal lock with a leaky gate. The water pulls the ash into the leaks and the ash clogs up the leak.

Oh yeah, forgot, the 'Tern' from Bowness to Lakeside and then the 'Swan' back to Bowness. Due to the nature of things, I didn't get any decent pictures of them, particularly as we were just arriving when Tern did at Bowness and then my phone ran out of juice on the train before I even got on the Swan.

I did have a pint of the 'Swan' beer though!

I've worked on both but Swan was my ship when I worked up there. I was principle barman for the 2023 season. ^_^

Pouring pints of Swan Blonde was something of an art as it didn't like the conditions in the "cellar".

I also worked on Swan, back in the 90s: father worked on building her and Teal at Vickers in the 30s, then caught up with them again in the 60s and 70s, as deckie, them helmsman and finally spare skipper.

I was served by a young guy with blonde, slightly curly hair and with a camping hat on.
He was also doing various other things, like the ropes and so on, along with an older guy who was doing the shop, etc.
