I had 8 days in Israe in the 80s and visited lots of places. I was based in Tel Aviv and got far north, galilee and down as far as Eilat (3 days diving). Ohh and Jerusalem. A fascinating country.
I went to Israel on a Youth Hostel things for 10 days - probably late 70s
We went round the whole place on local buses and stayed in Youth Hostels
Included an interesting evening with a couple of lads that we met - went inot Jerusalem and had a drink at a nice back street bar
we say outside
When we left my friend left his bag with all his stuff in under the table - by the time we realised and got back it had gone
So - money, travelers cheques AND PASSPORT!!
that involved a very interesting few extra days in Jerusalem navigating the court system to report everything and produce an officially sworn document saying it had been stolen - and an interview at the British Consulate to get an emergency passport
We got a few funny looks - which we attributed to "stupid foreigners"
until we met up with the other lads we had been at the bar with
They had discovered that the bar was a well known front for a brothel!!!!
we had commented that there were a lot of waitresses considering the size of the bar!!!!!
We did manage to get round most fo the country - one of the most interesting places I have been!
