My BT broadband contract is up next month and I have been thinking about switching this time. Last time I logged in they quoted a £5 discount if I renewed. It's now saying £14 discount. I might hold off until the contract is nearly up and see if it goes up any more. I don't really want to switch if they were more comparable with what I can get elsewhere.
I recently had the same with my BB provider. I eventually settled for doubling of speed, £13/month reduction for 3 months, then, £5/month reduction for remaining 21 months. This took about half a day, during which I was also haggling with another supplier. About 12 hours after I had “done a deal” with original supplier, potential supplier came back with an even better offer, including waiving some of the terms and conditions quoted on their website.
I decided stick with the deal I had agreed. I don’t like it when companies are asked to give their “best price” and then, when they lose out, decide they can actually do better.
To be honest, I don’t like the haggling. Insurance companies and BB providers, and no doubt others, need to get their act together and recognise customer loyalty.
