Hello! Again. The howling wind and torrential rain have ceased, now it's just breezy, damp, cold and drizzle. Almost balmy then. People I know are riding at 9.00 (daft), one of my buddies has a 50 minute ride to the start point, he's just messaged to say he's punctured half way there - now that really is shite!
Me? Next task is to build a fire, possibly followed by boiled eggs and toast or Weetabix, banana and milk. Decisions. I then have a lot of internet stuff to do. Mainly cycle club admin as it's membership renewals time. Without riding or being able to do stuff outdoors on the allotment there really isn't much to do.
Like the sound of Mrs Caldicott's Cabbage War. I will have a look later.
Think you will enjoy it. I was before I moved to theLRI older person team manager of a Social Services care home Care now is all by the private sector While the film is meant to be entertaining which it is it does in some ways reflect the current elder care system
My time with the hospital team i had to use private residential care as Social Services care homes were closing Referrals to me involving residential care after an assessment by physios and OTS as to physical and ability to manage activities of daily living could be met in ther own homes or 24 hour care was needed In either case I would review the care after one month to ensure those assesed care needs were being met
To cut a long story short the increasing involvement of private care sanctioned by the various counsels
who funded both residential and home care was contracted out to the private sector the role of the hospital was no longer needed. I have no idea how those assessments are now carried out. Mine and my Social Work colleagues were transferred out to area offices with no involvement with the hospital I could respond to a referral to my ward immediately
I took early retirement at age 63 much to the disgust of the consultant I worked with As I explained to him I wouldn’t be in the hospital at the end of the phone . I wouldn’t be able to attend the weekly multi disciplinary meetings were we could discuss open cases and future case that may need assessment I would be a Social Worker in an area office
It wasn’t what I signed up for
On the news a private care home manger was saying that apart funded vacancy by Social Service of aprox £500 for a place costing £1200 was not viable unless a top up by the applicant or their relatives could be paid .
I retired in 2003 and the only experience I have was with Mrs p father .The daughters had to contribute to the cost of care in a residential/nursing home. The care was abysmal.Yes it had on suit facilities which he couldn’t independently use due to physical disability .Often he would be eating his lunch when a care assistant would attend to assist with dressing and showering He passed away.after six months. I was talking to my sister in law about the home and apparently it was closed down three year’s ago.She didn’t know if it was closed down by the local authority or lt was no longer viable for the company that owened it
In his time there staff turnover was terrible which would have impacted on the continuity of care
