Well, I suppose it had to come sometime...
Took the bus to do a little shopping in town, happened across an old colleague I used to get on really well with, he's also recently retired, passed a few minutes with him chatting, then got on separate busses.
Journeyed home, went to get off while the bus was still moving, swayed around a bit but still under control with a big heavy bag....young fella behind me asked if I needed a hand with the bag
I'm fine, thanks for asking

Lovely gesture but comes as a shock when you still feel 50...but are 67 in reality

Were you sitting around a bust of Corbyn singing Kumbaya today? 🤔

No! We had some property developers in the stocks and were battering the soles or their feet with rubber hoses.

I took great delight in raining on their parade. The field they want to build on isn't farmed. One of our residents is in her 80s and tells me it isn't farmed because it was a tyre dump until the late 60s, when it became full and they lobbed 6 feet of topsoil over the top to hide the mess. The developer didnt know this!

Shame - you could have given them permission but got them to agree a fine if they had not finished the whole estate in 3 years time

THEN told them it used to be a tyre dump and they would have to dig up and dispose of the tyres in a eco friendly manner

I suppose there is probably a regulation saying you can;t do that I suppose

Walnered down to Aldi with Mrs Tkk earlier. The route takes us past the Plessey / Yunex* campus and the on site electric chargers are adjacent to the wire fence. Quite a few cars on charge but the one that caught my eye was a rather smart looking one with a BYD logo. I'm aware that BYD are a large Chinese brand and from what I've read they appear to be well made and excellent value.
Just got home and was browsing a tech site and it appears there's a tech show going on in London, and Octopus energy have just announced a deal where you can get a BYD Dolphin electric car, a charging point installed and free car charging for £ 299 per month.
* Yunex is where all the traffic signals are manufactured. They also have a proper works canteen, I know this because I can often get a whiff of that school dinners type aroma depending on what time I amble past.

The housing development up the road from us was built in the 1980's on the site of a Turkey farm, the bungalows around the corner were a pottery and another older development was the site of a commercial lavender farm.

Sadly as a parish council they only seek our input. We don't get to say yay or nay.

The frustrating bit is the developerw give the big carncil money to improve roads, the NHS a bung to build health centres, and so on, and these big public bodies just pocket the cash instead of providing facilities. Can't go further down that rabbit hole as it starts to get pollitickull.

The land out of the backof us is probably safe

It used to be the chemical dump for most of Widnes and Runcorn

It was converted into a golf course
but apparently there were signs along the stream telling people NOT to get their balls out if they went in
(stop sniggering at the back - I know who you are!!!)

because the stream, and especially the mud at the bottom, were heavily contaminated with arsenic

it has been fixed - mainly by closing the golf course and dropping the stream down by several meters

but I doubt they will get permission to build houses there!

Daughter No1 has just bought ( or PCP’d) a BYD car, not sure of model, but, not the Dolphin. She is happy with it.

The housing development at Baiter ( near Poole Quay ) was built on the site of the old Poole Gas works. They " decontaminated " the site prior to development but you're still not allowed / warned against growing veg in the gardens.
