I've owned the Kodiaq, for 4 years today
Seen here, on the day of collection, with its predecessor behind it, still the only time it's been really clean

Since collecting it, it's only covered 26,372 miles
Heck!, it only did 4,970miles between the 2024 - 2025 MOT tests
Between the 2023 & 2024 tests, it covered a few miles more, at 5,929miles (that included a long weekend in Edinburgh/2 weekends in Cumbria)

Will I keep it as long as the Octavia?
Who knows?, but 'up to press', yes!!

I saw a Octavia with 18" alloys. The first owner paid extra for this. Why? What did it offer over 17" or even 16" alloys?

I'm only asking because it seemed a good option for us. I'm assuming a harsher ride but better handling. Would I even notice that I doubt it. So am I better waiting for an Octavia with more normal sized alloys?

Joined the Skoda crew. Octavia 3 due to be collected in one to two weeks time.

Two niggles, the 12v socket in the central console is missing, I need a suitable cover, flip top perhaps rather than actual cigarette lighter style grip.

Secondly, no tyre or sealant kit. What's the recommended option? Space saver tyre or sealant kit? Or is there space for a full sized wheel inside the boot? Any opinions? What did you do or have in your Octavia?

And finally, have I made the right decision? We think yes, but there's always doubt.

As we entered Hawes (Wensleydale), from Beckermonds, via Fleet Moss, ‘Gayle Beck’ presents an opportunity this time past it, as daughter was with me to take photographs

It’s a very slippery base, even in 1st, at about 1200RPM, the traction-control could be felt searching for grip, at all 4 wheels

Tyre; I had a space-save in my Octavia
I never used it, but kept meaning to get a full-size

My Kodiaq runs on 235/55 x 18, but has a 215/75(?) spare

It's the cover I'm missing not the socket. Got an aluminium cheapo for now but not sure what would have been in there. It's a long time since I saw an actual lighter in one. What is the Skoda plug for this socket like?

Hi knowledgeable people ^_^

I'm almost 100% decided on the 3rd generation Superb Estate (2015-2023) but have a few questions. Before I get into the questions here is an overview of my typical car usage:
  • my annual mileage is between 7000 and 8000 miles
  • most journeys are in local towns and cities, maybe 20-30 miles per journey
  • we make several longer distance journeys each year to visit friends and family in UK and Europe, typically 800 to 1500 miles each
  • we carry a mobility scooter (70kgs) on most journeys
  • the car needs to have an automatic gearbox
So, to the questions:
  1. of the myriad engines available, which ones should I avoid?
  2. are there any general known issues to be aware of?
  3. what is the general opinion on the 1.4l hybrid?
  4. which trim level gives the most value for money?
  5. are there any common issues with the DSG auto-gearbox?
Many thanks for any and all comments

I'd go diesel or hybrid?

A diesel will give you better mpg. Hybrid better for the environment.

I would think the 1.4 would have issues as the electric will also take the strain.
DSG (double clutch) is pretty reliable as far as (DC) auto boxes go..

Anyone fancy a ford powershift?!

Trip to the shops made more interesting when you not only spot another Mk-1 Octavia parked up but it was also delivered by the same dealership in the same year…. Anorak mode activated much to the despair of child number 3 😁

I always get nosy when I see things like this..
1.9 diesel, 160k miles, chequered MOT history, off the road for a couple years about 5 years ago, then failed MOT for a broken rear axle then a couple of advisories since.

I have a 2018 sportline 280 estate. Best car I have ever owned, you won't be disappointed.

Petrol engines look like the would suit as you aren't a mega-miler and do some local motoring - the 1.4 powerplant isn't too bad and if you aren't a racer and don't tow then it is ,IIRC, 150ps and should be plenty. My missus has the same powerplant (well, 1.5) in her Karoq and its fine.

The 220ps 2.0t is front wheel drive and also a nice drive with a fair bit more poke, but I did something silly and test drove the 280ps 4x4 version and fell in love with the grip and power. It also tows my big twin-axle trailer effortlessly which is the excuse I used to the missus to buy one :-)

It'll swallow a mobility scooter no probs.

The 2.0l petrol engine (220/280ps) does suffer from coolant leaks from the front of the engine - its about a £650 fix, mine went at 35k miles but others seem to get 60-70k.

All the trim levels are pretty good. depends what you want. SE-L is probably the sweet spot, I just preferred the sportline.

There are two types of DSG box, wet and dry clutch. From driving you won't be able to tell and they both drive beautifully. I'd never had an auto before and the DSG made me a convert!

good luck
