Last week on Thursday we picked up our MK3 Octavia. Today we set off cross country and less than 10 minutes we had to turn back due to juddering noise and switch to the little car we very nearly sold last weekend.

We had it just over one week and most of that it hasn't been used. Wednesday it did a 90 minutes round trip without any issues.

We have had bad luck on our last three vehicles except for the little car. A Peugeot turns out more reliable than a Skoda and a SEAT! Who'd have thought a VW group car is less reliable than a French car?!!

68,000 miles. It disappeared for a few weeks but today it was back. A high pitched vibrating noise that caused some passengers a bit of pain or discomfort.

Googling it for the 1.6tdi there's failing dual mass flywheel, steering angle sensor or fuel line on the passengers side being loose. The latter is typical at about 1700-2200rpm which is not too far off the 35-40mph when it starts.

Anyone know how to track down those things that are intermittent and not heard when the garage checks it out?

We are on holiday in the Algarve and been given a Scala as a rental car, pretty sure it’s a 1.0 3 cylinder, but very impressed with it, ride and comfort are excellent and it’s just a nice size car.

I always get nosy when I see things like this..
1.9 diesel, 160k miles, chequered MOT history, off the road for a couple years about 5 years ago, then failed MOT for a broken rear axle then a couple of advisories since.

I took the old girl off the road because I was cycling more. Decided to resurrect the old thing only to be shocked at the near death catastrophe regarding the great axle. Apparently it’s a common issue on the Golf 4 platform
She is running beautifully now but is now needing a new turbo soon 😩 Thankfully it gives me the opportunity to slightly upgrade that bit to something off the Fabia RS 😉

Car broken down at waggon lane. Clutch hydraulics gone at gearbox end.
Recovered by RAC very good service.
Didn't realise I had a £40 excess on the cover?
Await garages verdict tomorrow as it's MOT and service are needed? Plus it's rusty underneath - Liverpool car! 😢

How much do I invest in the above car seeing that it will need £1k for clutch gearbox issue and say £500 for MOT??

Our thirteen plate late Octavia TSI which we’ve owned from new (the one with the 1.2 lire engine) has now done 196000 miles and still going strong. Our local garage calls it the “miracle car” last two mot’s needed nowt bar a front side light bulb.
I put its longevity down to diy oil changes every five thousand miles.

Just got back from hols so i have had more experience of driving the fabia and its a good car apart from a few niggles as the android auto disconnects some times even though it is connected by a cable which was annoying if you are using your phone to navigate at the time and the estimated range would start counting up rather than down until you stopped and then it would correct itself.
Driving fully loaded at motorway speed the car was fine on the flat but any incline it would struggle to keep up with traffic so i either had to get a run up or stay in the slow lane and follow the lorries.
Came back early yesterday evening as a new group of holiday makers arrived in the caravan next to us and they were still outside after midnight making noise and playing loud music but the camp security didnt seem bothered .
