Thermal Water Bottle

Has anybody any exerience of Thermal water bottles, particularly ones that will keep a drink warm as the weather gets colder? Preferably one that with last for more than a couple of hours, and will fit in a standard bottle cage.

Camelback do one that insulated but more to keep things a but cooler in summer.

I bought a slimline thermos flask from Asda last winter when coffee places weren't open. It's a decent cup size and sits in a pocket nicely.

You'd need it to be thermos standard for your bottle cage.

The Lifeventure thermal mug does a good job, and it fits in a bottle cage. I wrapped a couple of lengths of old inner tube around mine to stop it rattling.

I just use an ordinary small thermos and wrap a bit of insulating foam round it to make it fit and also to stop any rattling.

I put my thermos in an old sock to stop the rattle adds insulation too.

I bought a 350ml metal thermos last year that fits in a bidon holder. (Great idea about the sock to prevent rattle @Oldhippy - I'll try that instead of a piece of pipe lagging foam).

It works great. If you need it to stay warm for a VERY long time (>2-3 hrs), preheat with boiling water before pouring in your drink. Job's a goodun!

Can the top be opened single handed, and then drink on the go like a normal cycle bottle? Can't quite tell from the pics

Would it even be safe to do that with a really hot drink?

No but it would have to be tried if there was a even a slight possibility of it working.

With a 'standard' cycle top it would be fine. Not with one that's open though. So needs to self seal, not like a normal coffee cup with a slot that you drink through.

I've been very happy with my Thermos King Mug. Had it for 3 years now and it's used alot. Fits into my bottle holder, I have the one with a handle which is great.

Do you really want a hot drink on the go ? I tried this once with a camelback water bladder and nearly suffocated myself.

The drink had cooled to body temperature and I couldn't tell if my mouth was full of drink or not. Was quite weird. Didn't try that again.

You can when it’s bloody freezing and you only want a quick stop, a sip and be in your way. I’ve seen the ultimate in faffing with stoves in winter where everyone froze their bits off waiting for something hot to drink.
