Departments within the army are prefixed with 'Royal', e.g. Royal Army Medical Corps, Royal Army Service Corps, etc. It seems strange that it's not used for the complete organization though.
The Army is a much older organisation, and is lots of different regiments, which were not always under the control of the Crown.
The Navy is also old but has always been owned by the crown. The Airforce is very new and was originally the Royal Flying Corp as part of the army.
To be fair most regiments do have some Royal connection in their name as pointed out above.

There was also I think the Fleet Air Arm which was part of the navy. One of my old drinking buddies Francis Drake [Yes that was his name and he was later skipper of Bloodhound] was a pilot in the navy and as usual was full of entertaining and probably partly fictional tales.

The Royal Naval Air Service, pre 1918. Later merged with the RFC to form the RAF. It also had armoured Rolls Royces the only armoured vehicles in the British Services at the time, for the rescue of downed air men. Later in the 1930’s the Fleet Air Arm was set up.
