Regular round by the Rag and Bone man too. Bit of a recent thing that though, must have started in the last year or two as hadn't seen one for ages prior to that. Scrap prices may have something to do with it.

We get our 'mulk' delivered too, but it is by a boy who jumps out of a van (which stops before you ask!).

As for the Rag And Bone Men? Well, I bet you would come across quite a lot of really cool things and bikes, mostly BSOs admittedly, but also the occasional decent/vintage one which you'd just want to keep!

As it is, I don't think I've ever seen a rag and bone man, so I think there would be an opening for one locally.

Yup, there are plenty operating round York - one even has a horse drawn cart! Otherwise, they have transit pickups, with tannoys.

In my yoof, in Cyprus a lorry came round every evening. It painted in the Coca Cola colours and stacked with bottles of the stuff in crates. It was supplying the servicemen. Everything from the USA was 'the bomb' back then. In summer another kind of lorry came round to spray the road surface with water 'to lay the dust'.

Rag and bone men (and woman).

There is one round here regularly. Until about two years ago, he had a horse and cart.

Those charity boxes that looked like disabled kids. Linky here for an example. Growing up in the '70s I remember one outside the local corner shop. It used to scare the b'jesus out of me as it looked like something straight out of a Tom Baker era Dr Who episode. I imagined it having real eyes and shooting a gun out of its mouth. Seriously!

(I've not embedded the image as by today's standards it's not particularly sensitive)

That was a pic of a little girl. The one outside our local newsagent/sweetshop was a little boy.
The metal calliper used to freak me out as a little kidda.
