We use Quaker - other makes may differ
my technique is to open the proper opening on the side at the top
Then rip the side up to the top
then put the box on the side with the opening at the top and pour it out by tipping it
tends to work when I do it - but it does mean it is not sealed afterwards

The stupid opening flaps on boxes of porridge etc. They never open cleanly and pouring out the oats inevitably means spillage.
Sealed containers have the advantage of minimising food moth infestations, which if you're regularly eating oats is a permanent risk
Yikes, I didn't know about them!!!We had an infestation of weevils a few years ago which seemed to be centred on our breakfast cereals cupboard. Absolute nightmare, took a lot of effort to get rid of them. Everything kept in sealed plastic containers since then.

We keep all our flour in sealed containers.Yikes, I didn't know about them!!!
Mind you, I already use sealed containers for oats, muesli, mixed seeds, and raisins.
