I’ve returned to the gym for the first time in 7 weeks and my weight has jumped by 2.5lb despite not eating more than normal.

It’ll most likely be water weight from my muscles swelling up.

The plan now is to get back into gym routine 3 days a week, 8-10k steps a day, carry on eating 2000 calories a day (140g protein, 60g fat and 170 carbs) and I’m expecting to see some further improvements either in weight loss or muscle definition.

Thank you. When I first went on my new regime it was comjng of 4 or 5 lbs a week, but thats slowed maybe half a pound a week. I guess that shows my new found eating habits are pretty close the ideal intake for a gent of my build and dimensions.

A problem this morning.

Decided to wear a shirt as my Mum is popping round later and she always finds something to complain about. First three shirts out the wardrobe look like tents on my now so went straight on Mrs D's Vinted pile.

222.8lbs this morning. Edging very close to target.

Good job! The losses will be harder to bank the closer you get to your target weight, especially if you're eating sustainably. Not sure I've heard of edging as a weight loss technique, but if it works for you.

Yeah I was a couple of ounces under 12st this morning. So that's a stone lost since I started, abeit I started after gaining 1/4st on holiday!

Now to maintain it starting with an 11! Or a 3/4 @Drago!

11st 12lb this week.
Happy birthday to me!
Now can't wear my jeans without a belt, although a long weekend of B'day celebrations, a day at the cricket and visiting family might fix that!

Still dropping probably half a kilo a week. I have shifted a few notches on my belt, and I'm going to have to drill some holes in my main belt as I've run out and my pants are starting to fall off. Even a weekend away (so eating a bit more, drinking 'stout', but walking a lot) resulted in me dropping another kilo. Should be good for when we are camping for a 9 days as we'll be pretty active, despite eating a fair bit and partaking in some drinkies.

We have both found sticking to overnight oats really keeps the munchies off. I've been strict in no snacking, especially when at work. I do need to make sure I'm drinking more water though, not always easy.

Great work and enviable progress :becool:

I've not posted for a while as I got into the habit of doing so on Sundays but then lost the opportunity for a few weeks as I was at the homestead on these mornings with no scales.

I'm still heading in the right direction albeit very slowly.. this morning's 7-day means, as well as average 7-day losses sampled over both 7 and 24 days are:

Mass: 70.32kg, 0.26kg/wk, 0.35kg/wk
Chest: 96.3cm, 0.79cm/wk, 0.13cm/wk
Waist: 87.2cm, 0.79cm/wk, 0.48cm/wk
Hips: 92.0cm, 0.32cm/wk, 0.22cm/wk

So, mass loss continues at a slowing rate, loss of chest circumference has accelerated but this tends to be subject to a fair amount of measuring variation so I'm not reading too much into this.

Waist size seems to be falling nicely but appears to lag mass loss somewhat so I expect might start to level out soon. Unsurprisingly there's less change in the hip measurement since there's not a lot of fat in this area.

Waist to hip ratio has now fallen just below 0.95, with the accepted "healthy" goal being widely quoted at 0.90 which would suggest an ideal waist size of around 82-83cm, assuming the hip measurement doesn't fall too much more.

Looking at the trends in waist size and mass this would suggest an ideal mass of around 66.5 - 67.5kg, which correlates pretty well with the 10% fat goal suggested by my fat caliper measurements a few weeks ago.

At the current rate of loss it would take around 12-16 weeks to lose this mass and realistically I'm highly unlikely to be able to sustain this through the cold, dark misery of winter... but I'll push it as far as I can and try to minimise this winter's weight gain to begin from a more advantageous position next year; as I did to a small extent this year - beginning about 2kg down on where I was the previous year.

You are pretty light TBH. I was never under about 80kg even when racing, so that's my target. I've got about 7kg to go. Due to my knackered hip, I put a few kg's on last year, so this last 6 months has see me drop about 11kg (I porked up a bit). The biggest indication has been 2-3 inches off the waist and the middle aged dad "aero" belly going down quickly. More noticeable is the increase in cycling speed, which will be a direct result of less snacking, reduced weight and much improved insulin response - my HBA1C was starting to go the wrong way as the weight wasn't right for me - god knows how obese people go on - just a few kg's too much had an effect on those values for me.

Are you very muscular? I reckon that you are 3-4" shorter than me (I am 6' 1"), and I still had a significant 'aero belly' at 80 kg. I think that I would need to be around 73 kg to get rid of it altogether, or a few kg heavier if I put on some (probably much-needed) upper body muscle.

Objectively for my height (c. 177cm) certainly; however this is largely due to a chronic lack of upper-body muscle mass. As it stands the markers are still there for excess body fat if much reduced - tits, belly, bulges at the lower back so I evidently have a way to go yet.

Interestingly a BMI of 18.5 (suggested by the NHS as the lower end of the "healthy" range) would correspond to about 58kg - although I think I'd have to be into negative body fat figures to achieve this!

How tall are you?

Great work with the weight loss and 2-3" off the waist is certainly significant - I bet that feels fantastic :becool:

That's interesting about the other factors; blood sugar / insulin response isn't something I've looked into - I assume you have this facility because you're diabetic? Must be nice to have that insight as I've certainly found value in recording and exploring as many factors as possible which helps with spotting trends, setting goals and staying motivated.

It seems there's an enormous amount of supporting evidence for excess fat driving all manner of health issues, as well as compounding the original problem through mechanisms that weight loss proportionally more difficult. It's a cruel self-perpetuating cycle; apparently the fatter you are you don't just have more mass to lose but it's very presence makes that loss disproportionately more difficult.

I'm hoping that gaining some muscle mass will raise my BMR and make it easier to keep the weight off in future; although last winter drove home that just eating what I want (outside of low-carb) is unsustainable so realistically if I'm always going to have to moderate my diet to an extent. I've been overweight all my life and if I actually get to where I'm aiming I really don't want to go back!

This morning's daily weigh-in saw the arbitrary 70kg barrier breeched for the first time in years which gives a little psychological boost - celebrating with a fry-up
