Get Carter and The Long Good Friday are bookends to a particular era, most of it during the 1970s. The fact that they made this social commentary through the medium of the gangster flic is commendable.
I think of it as the era that started with exposed water pipes and Ascot gas water heaters in the kitchen, and ended with universal central heating and double glazing.

GC is such an old film really, certain things in it have gone never to return such as him renting the room from and the landlady - it's all Airbnbs now.

I've been watching a few Michael Caine films recently:

Funeral in Berlin
A Harry Palmer film, a series I've never seen. It's really good and I found the plot refreshingly simple for a spy caper despite have it's shares of twists.

Last Orders
I love this type of film, a little road journey between friends and a glimpse into their lives. Nothing much happens but nothing needs to happen, it's just a good film.

The Italian Job
Well you kinda have to watch this if your watching MC films. Some people say the silly jokes that creep in stop it from being an all time great crime film but I say they make the film, it's a perfect blend of seriousness and tomfoolery.
