Some genuine Titanium QR Skewers. To go on a bike with barely any other Ti.

I've bought quite a few Titanium parts now. With no real plan - and they are spread over quite a few machines. If i'd have had a modicum of pre-thought and planning: i could have already be owning 1 x Super-lightweight and super Trick machine.

As it is; all i've actually done is considerably lightened my wallet and not much else

Collected newly built wheels for the Carrera Subway.

Very high end (And requested unbranded) OEM hubs with 60 points of engagement on the rear, Mavic XC series rims / very strong Sapim butted Stainless spokes.

So built for all types of all year round riding; with low weight being important. But strength also equally so. And with lighter discs, Ti skewers, Ti bolts etc - will result in over 1.5kg of lost heft……

^^^Planning on starting to fit the new wheels tonight / swap the cassette across: it’s just occurred to me the old wheels have Schrader Valve tubes. New wheels have Presta holes………🙄

Some Googling suggests if staying with Butyl rubber - a Slim / Lightweight 26” Tube might be the best way to go when running a narrower (38 or 42C) tyre - compared to the wider tyres [And hence bigger volume tubes to suit] that most MTB riders using 27.5” wheels will be using.

So…..have this Morning purchased some Schwalbe Extra light 26” Tubes with 60mm Presta Valves. Should mean I’ll be stretching them onto / over the rim slightly and expanding them out upon inflation - rather than trying to cram in the excess of a bigger tube meant for larger volume tyres. And of course i'll save weight with the Lighter weight tubes. And a little bit more now being in the smaller size.

All in theory of course  Let’s see how this goes………

I remember a rider having major problems with a Ti skewer which wouldn't clamp tight enough to stop their rear wheel pulling free during hard efforts. I don't know if it was due to Ti being more stretchy than steel?

I would test yours with the hardest efforts that you are ever going to make, to make sure that you do not end up discovering that problem in the middle of nowhere!

Really appreciate the thoughts my friend 🙏

No such thing as properly working stretchy Ti skewers though Colin. Any more than there’s stretchy Ti frames or stretchy Ti Formula One parts. It was ‘something else’ effecting his imo. But - it’s of course a vital part. So I’ll keep an eye on them regardless for a few rides 🙋‍♂️

I popped into a retro cycling kit retailer at the weekend. I usually pop in when visiting the Town. Usually has a very good selection of stuff, and I've bought bib tights and a few decent plain jersey's from him. He's currently selling a large range of retro jersey's on behalf of a 'collector', as well as his own stock. I liked the look of a few jersey's and he said he'd have to ask the 'individual' how much they wanted for the tops. Left him my whatsapp. Got back to me fairly sharpish, one top was £180 and the other two I fancied £280 each. Good job I was sat down. Politely declined. MrsF went onto her 'Vinted' and promptly found the same jersey from 1986 for £20 delivered.

The 'Vinted' Festina top arrived today. Mint condition and genuine (right labels and fancy zipper 'pull'). I can't see this poor guy selling any.

FWIW, I had an ordinary skewer that did`nt lock properly, certainly not titanium. It could happen to any I guess.

I have just ordered a new 105 11 speed cassette and KMC chain. Not needed at present but at a good price IMO, ready for the future. I also ordered a chain checker as well. I have never bothered before as I usually change the chain in the 2000s miles that is. I know next time the cassette will need a change, I am guessing. 10,000 miles down the road !
