I am too mean/hard up to splash out on expensive bolts like those but... I have rusty stem bolts on most of my bikes due to forgetting to wipe sweat off them, so perhaps I should buy some!

Not too expensive to be honest - I replaced the stem and bottle cage bolts for one bike for about £20 with Rainbow TI bolts from ebay. That being said a 50 pack of regular M5x20 bolts is about £6 from screwfix.

We changed both of the canti brake triangles on son no. 2's Columbus X-Wing cyclocross bike as both had snapped. It looks like multiple winters' use had corroded both. If the replacements don't work then we'll use Shimano's CX-50 brakes instead as I have a spare set.

The Giant FCR received a new silver quill stem, free from @Kevberlin , and I swapped to better grips. This bike was supposed to be a quick clean up then sell, but it's stayed. They sometimes do this.

I'd hoped to swap the Tiagra crankset to an Ultegra one however a crank bolt just wouldn't come loose: there appears to have been no grease used when first built back in 2008. So, it'll stay until the bottom bracket needs replacing and I'll then do the lot.

One updated Giant FCR:

I've had my new ebike for a few weeks now and just passed the 300km mark. Predictably the contact points have been first to be fettled.

The bouncy seatpost has been replaced with a normal one, the saddle is now a Brooks C17 and today I replaced the grips with Ergon ones.
The next job is to start trimming the excessively wide (680mm) bars down a little bit at a time.

The 540 mm bars on my old MTB feel quite wide compared to what I am used to on my road bikes, whose bars are 80-100 mm narrower than that. 680 mm would feel really wide to me, but I suppose that it depends on what you are used to!

680 feels stupidly wide to me, coming from 420 drops. I need to be careful not to narrow them too much thus pushing my shoulders back.

After developing play, antique SPD pedals - that have suffered through many British winters - were overhauled and reset for correct bearing preload. All ok & once again turning cranks on the ugliest bicycle in the country.
Kudos to Shimano - (imho) the M520 is a fantastic product.
Next will be to true up a similarly ancient wheel.

I really should do that with some of my old SPD pedals instead of just buying new ones!

I will do up one of the old pairs of pedals so I have spares to swap in for if/when any of the newer pedals start to play up.

New jockey wheels on the Spa audax 105 derailleur. I’ve been having an intermittent noise on a few recent rides which investigations show was the chain coming off the top pulley wheel and rubbing against the cage. The pulley had a lot of lateral play which on fitting the new one I now know was not normal!

Started work on a friend's bike. Not in the mood at all.

Put on new brake pads, chain and cassette along with a part worn Marathon+ on the back to replace the paper thin tyre.

I ended up changing the Deore derailleur as it was twisted and the hanger was miles out, too. The front derailleur is also miles out of adjustment; that and the adjustment of the rd will have to wait until Wednesday, when I may be in a better mood for unexpected problems.
