The very first thing I ever drove was a 1958 MKI Massey Ferguson when I learned to steer it around the hay field while my Dad and my Mum's cousin set bales on the trailer when I was 5 or 6 (health and safety people look away now!). Ours had a Victor safety cab fitted, more usually found on John Deere or David Browns of the period.

The first car I ever drove was a 1980 MKV Ford Cortina 1.6L in hideous beige colour.

The first lorry I ever drove was a 1979 Volvo F7-17 tractor unit.

It's highly likely I will never drive a lorry ever again but I continue to drive cars and tractors.

How much does it cost to Oldham?
A 540 cube Plymouth Barracuda. Drum brake monster nonsense. 16 years old in Asda car park.

A Mini that was older than I was. Learning clutch control when you've got about 5mm of travel between 'off' and 'on' was challenging.
I now pride myself on my gear changes being imperceptible, other than the change in engine note.

Sit on lawnmower was the first thing I ever drove. Couldn't tell you the make.

First car i ever drove was my Grandad's Lancia Flavia.

First motorbike I ever rode was my mates Dad's CB400N Wet Dream.

A 1965 Peugeot 404. We were going to my uncle's farm when my father just pulled over and said:" I think the time has come for you to learn to drive.". That was in France of course, I was 17 and the legal age to learn to drive was 18 and still is. No provisional licence of course .

That sounds familiar

You always know the Perkins conversions as the engine sat about three inches taller than the Standard Motor Company original so a spacer was required above the dashboard to raise the bonnet line to suit.

Edit: You would also have had a Perkins Diesel badge

There was one on the 65 as well, and you also found them on diesel conversions of Fordsons and Nuffields. Those badges are worth quite a lot of money today.

As far as I can remember it probably was a Massey 135, before moving on to a Ford then finally progressing to the big International. As far as I can remember the first car was either a Maxi or a Mk1 Escort and owned my first car at 14 which was a mini.
