This applies to ones you make at home, not buy from a supermarket or fancy deli.

The reliable sandwich that never disappoints, as long as the ingredients are good.

For me it's ham, cheese and piccalilli. Preferably thick slices of home roasted, hand carved gammon ham, proper doorstops of vintage cheddar, and homemade piccalilli. Bread can either be wholemeal or, if white, it must be crusty farmhouse cob, sliced thick*. Bog standard white bread has no place in our house apart from the toaster.
The bread must be buttered with actual butter, no spreads.

*If it isn't a challenge getting it in your gob without dislocating your jaw like a snake, the sandwich is too thin!

Food of the gods. I will occasionally substitute Branston for the piccalilli, if needs must.

Egg and cress, onion or tomato on a nice crusty loaf spread with lurpak.

Food of the gods. :becool:

Ham, salad, mayo, Branson pickle if I have it. But just recently I've started cooking big packs of chicken so I've been having chicken mayo and sweetcorn. You can't go wrong with ham in a sandwich though

Just add proper dairy butter to nice bread. (Maybe a bit of jam or honey.)
