I’ll be doing a short 50 permanent this week; Don’t Forget Your Halo!

Update 19/02/2026:
Completed the Audax today after a 6-2 shift, a nice route on roads I’m sort of familiar with but took me longer than I expected. However, Grane Rd out of Haslingden to the second control is much better now they’ve added average speed cameras! I did that road once years ago before the cameras and it was not fun then as the 50mph was ignored with cars zooming towards the M65 so I was a little apprehensive. Still I’d recommend avoiding rush hour if you can. It does say this on the Audax description too but it was the only way I was going to fit it in this week.

Tenby-Twywn 400 on Good Friday night. Looks a bit hilly!
Very early in the year for a 400, but it's something different so I'm giving it a go with my Clubmate from India. Just receibed the charmingly retro routesheet. How can you not love this sort of thing:

Retrace route to Machynlleth, following the A487 south direction Aberystwyth along
the Dyfi estuary, the via Furnace. In Talybont 288km, turn left passing Y Llew Gwyn
(The White Lion) pub to follow the small road [SP Bontgoch (Elerch), Nantymoch], all
the way up to Nant Y Moch pass 257km, then along past the reservoir, over the dam
then down to Ponterwyd. Turn right onto the A44 for ≤1 km to the BP garage.

(resisted the temptation to render this in Ye Olde Worlde font)

That's the kind of cue sheet I use and prefer. So much more informative than a device with mundane 'bread crumbs'.

That is cool, is it meant to replicate Jodrell Bank?

Signed up for the Cambridge Randonee 150 (actually its 165) on the 11th of July.

The plan for this year included the 1200km from Bordeaux* over the past week. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! I wouldn't have got past half-way in the heat.

I didn't enter - for a number of reasons - and instead ended up riding one of Will's great rides from Bristol. A hilly (3xAAA) 200 that I rounded up to 200 miles by riding home. The first 4 hours were lovely! Then about 7h of lovely roads/views/villages but oppressive heat. Average speed decayed away to about 15.0001kph by the time the sun went down, then I picked up a bit, trying to ignore the cheering from random pubs. Finished in quite a chilly easterly headwind (it was actually "nice" to put some more clothes on, having lugged a load of unnecessary stuff with me for 2 days!), 2am watched the footy highlights, spent Sunday totally knackered. A tough long day, but very enjoyable.
