I just counted our passports: we have 12

And six people in our family.

This has the advantage that the bag they are kept in is so big, it's hard to loose...

Photo ID is very often needed when taking up a job and I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes mandatory.

It seems an expensive way to make people have ID though, It also means lots more people need passports and they've closed the German office which used to deal with applications from Europe and I think Africa, so it means everyone is going to Liverpool which won't speed things up.
