Recently went back to Brittany on holiday, and rediscovered the marvel that is the Brittany town market. Most of the centre of town is taken up by stalls selling all sorts of produce, from food, clothes, shoes, leather goods, wine, cider, to tables, conservatories and many more. You can generally have a choice of 3+ specialist cheese stalls and similar for meat and fish, with an even greater number of vegetable and fruit options.

I always rather liked Oxford market; proper food shops like high-class butchers/fishmongers, cafes of the bacon buttie variety, plus quite a lot else. Not been there for a good few years though. And back in the day I remember Cardiff market being superb, but not been there for a very long time - assuming it's still there. The arcades in Cardiff were all still there, albeit changed shops, but still rather fine.

Castle Market in Sheffield before it moved to the soulless building its in now, i suppose it has to be since i used to spend 15 hours a day 6 days a week for 3 years from 16 there

I remember Hoxton market in Shoreditch used to be really good back in the early / mid 1980s. Now, sadly, it's a shadow of its former self. Chapel Street market up at the Angel has changed a lot over the years, but it's still decent with a good butcher and fishmonger, although it's more artisan food and food carts than cheap plastic tat. Best all-rounder these days IMHO is Walthamstow market, which is also brilliant for fabric. By far the best for fruit and veg is definitely Ridley Road market in Dalston - the produce there is amazing and competitively priced. But then Spitalfields is just a stone's throw away.

Ely market by comparison is small, pokey and rather crap. Cambridge is worth a bimble around, but it's rather expensive and much of it is clearly aimed at tourists.

Never been a market person, they've become an increasing source if the same old tripe, a multitude of stalls all more or less selling the same stuff.
Langar airfield market used to be good in the 70s as was the market on top of the Victoria Centre in Nottingham, get yer mushy peas and mint sauce at the same time. I wonder if either are still there (covid notwithstanding)
Whenever we end up at Skegvegas, we (my wife) gravitates toward Ingoldmells market, God I hate the place :cursing:
Cries of 'I'm not going to charge you twenty, I'm not going to charge you a tenna, I'm not even going to charge you.....'
Me thinking...'fark off mate, just tell us how much it is'

Tat, that's all I've ever seen st markets for decades.

Lancashire wise,Bury and Fleetwood markets were very popular 'back in the day'. Accy market is in a nice Victorian building, but it's only half full. According to reports the rent it very high,so quite a lot of stall holders have moved out.
