I've just remembered, (shamefully!), that I met and actually worked with, Vin Denson. I don't know if he still has his timber preservation business, but in 2008 I was converting a pub in Ongar into 4 flats and his company was hired to treat and restore the 18th century timbers. He gave me a signed photograph of himself riding with Jacques Anquetil. He also brought in loads of old continental cycling magazines with stories of his exploits. He still couldn't understand why the foreign press referred to him as 'Vic' Denson. When I met him he was into his seventies, still working and had a new 'girlfriend' who was 20+ years his junior. If I can find the photograph, I'll scan it and post it on here.

I've just realised that I've met him too! My English teacher's brother made a film and we were all invited to the premier. Ron had a small part and was there too, he was sat next to us. My friend Greg was very eager to see his legendary appendage, and he was all set to whip it out then realised we were minors.
