Why do some cyclist ride when it`s windy??

Because of the horrendous weather we have been having, I was just checking between how far I cycled last Dec and this Dec. This Dec, I`ve done about a quarter of the miles and that is mainly due to the strong winds we`ve been experiencing.

Today, I saw two different cyclists having two major wobbles due to the wind and I just don`t understand why they would go out when it is so windy. I love cycling but I love coming home in one piece even more!

I ride when its windy as its a riding day and I can't make it up during the week. If we get a tornado warning, I would stay in but if its just windy I go out. You burn extra calories cycling into the wind and get an awesome workout.
I'm not daft though, I don't go out in stupid weather.

Sometimes there is no choice in the matter - if I have to go to my office, it takes considerably longer on public transport than it does on a bike even on a windy day.

Other than that, it is all down to different strokes for different folks and all that. There are many people who won't ride when it is raining, same thing really (though, arguably, windy conditions bring in a slightly more dangerous element to the ride).

Riding in high winds is character forming (especially for sub 60 Kg riders like myself!) and, sometimes, just sometimes, you catch the legendary beast that is a tailwind and the fun starts.

Some people (like me) are limited for time so take any chance they get, last night was literally the first chance I have had for over a week to sneak out for a ride thanks to various other commitments- I know it was only 25mph at worse but I would still have gone if it was windier just to get out.

Sorry, I actually meant riding in wind that you can hardly walk in - i dont mind riding when the wind is "normal" as you know at some point you will get the benefit of it, but to risk actually being bown off your bike seems a bit fool-hardy!

Even in extremely windy weather some people have no choice, by this I mean they just have to feed their addiction of some miles..... there is no known cure for this...
