Hi, apologies if this subject has been covered I've tried searching but can't come up with anything too specific.

My tights are not up to the job in this cold weather and I'm looking for recommendations. Thing is sizing, I'm slim but with seemingly disproportionately long legs, I do own a pair of Altura winter cruisers in large that I bought a while ago but they've never been that great a fit, they are baggy on me and still too short in the leg, with the stirrups on I'm walking like a penguin or they catch on the saddle and without them they're half way up my leg! Wiggles sizing seems to be similar.

I've tried looking at the more Italian fitting makes which seem nearer with there sizing and although I think I'd rather have waist tights bibs seem to dominate and I can see how these would give a better fit, I don't really want to spend more than £60 though if I can help it.

Any one have any ideas so I don't have to resort to long johns? Also I'd rather they were without a pad so I can still wear my usual shorts, maybe I'm being too fussy?

Thanks

Waist tights or shorts are instantly forgotten about once you wear bibs for the first time, not having that elastic digging into you is a revelation. Keep you warmer too if they cover a bit of your waist, and never slip down and em exposé your arse. Sizing is trial and error unfortunately. I'd expect dhb to fit better than altura personally, and I think dhb can be had pad free (I like this better, means 1 pair can be worn over shorts for several days so need less pairs).

In between here and there
Bibs are great, Wiggle are great too for free no quibble returns to get sized properly. (DHB being their own brand)

Try decathlon. I got a pair of their 7 series membrane big long for this year and they are brilliant. They do have a gel pad though, so maybe not what you are looking for.

I just got some Funkier Thermal Bibtights; They are slim fitting, and long. I'm 30" waist and 5'10"ish, they're comfortably tight fitting, but almost loose on the shoulder straps. I could probably take a couple of inches out if I needed to.
I wore them on the way into work at 7.15am this morning (-5C I'd guess), and they were good. Bit of a chill stepping out of the door, but warm once I'd got going. My Altura night vision double gloves on the other hand, were no match for the cold and my poor circulation.... forzen thumb in 5 minutes.

this is an astonishing good product, for a  price. I wore out a pair last winter which went down to about 0 fine on their own, then about -6 with some merino base under

Hi thanks Matt, they do look a bargain but they've only got them in X Small now.

aww I didnt notice that. a great shame. the other items in the dhb range are also awesome though. you can pay half the amount for dbh and get the same quality as many high end brands. Im sure lots on here will agree with that.

What's the sizing like on them? I've got a 5? series pair of XL bib tights and even though I'm fairly slim and short-legged-long-bodied, they seem a bit saggy around the crutch. I'd be concerned that 2fenders, who has the short-long proportions the other way round from me, might find the pad's keeping his knees warm.

I have a pair (£60 ones-might still be reduced to £40) and they fit great.

I tried on their £40 ones (were reduced to £25) and they were a lot tighter which seemed odd.

To the OP - difference in price for the above is that the more expensive pair are windproof (both are super roubaix material too). I spent a bit of time doing a bit of research and if you want to stay warm as poss then go for windproof.

@hacienda71 also pointed me to a cheap windproof pair of bib longs on the net. Can't remember the name of them.

You might also consider - and look out for, Lidl's winter undergarments. Their tops and longs for a few quid are as good as you will get anywhere.

Sounds like wiggle might be worth a try as mentioned and they do an unpadded version of a roubaix bibtight, I could get a couple of different sizes to try and return them if the fit wasn't right.

I don't think Svendo is online now but I'd be interested to know what size he'd bought as their stuff looks ok too.

Thanks 400bhp, I noticed some of them are windproof as well which might well be worth the extra. do you notice if they get too warm though once you've been out for a while?
