The gear she was using is a bit mind boggling. They say " one full revolution of the pedals equals 125 feet". My quick calculations say that this is a 477" gear, equivalent to a 196T chainwheel and an 11T sprocket*. And it's a fixed wheel!

She had to be towed up to speed. Imagine starting off on a 477" fixie!

* These calculations may be total rubbish. I am, after all, an idiot.

Saw the bike, looks like it had an intermediate gear, cranks drive small sprocket attached to another chain wheel madness.

It's fixed wheel and fixed gear. One chain ring drives another chain ring to get the ratio as high as it is without having a single chain ring bigger than the wheels.

So she can achieve 147mph behind a huge American pace car. So what? Proves nothing except a touching faith in immortality. Just as well the Americans seem to be quite religious. ;)
