Woman sets 147mph paced cycling record

The gear she was using is a bit mind boggling. They say " one full revolution of the pedals equals 125 feet". My quick calculations say that this is a 477" gear, equivalent to a 196T chainwheel and an 11T sprocket*. And it's a fixed wheel!

She had to be towed up to speed. Imagine starting off on a 477" fixie!

* These calculations may be total rubbish. I am, after all, an idiot.

I should really have mentioned her name, rather than just referring to her as "Woman". Her name is Denise Mueller

Surely she should be charged with "pedalling furiously" or whatever the offence is. Gives responsible cyclists a bad name. No doubt someone will defend it because speed limits only apply to motorists, but what if a toddler had stepped out

It's fixed wheel and fixed gear. One chain ring drives another chain ring to get the ratio as high as it is without having a single chain ring bigger than the wheels.
