What even is this 'ghost click' of which you speak?
I interpret it as an attempt to shift, the shifter clicks, but no change occurs. The next attempt does shift correctly....I assume that's the gist of it.
That to me smacks of cable tension...

Grumblin at Garmin on the Granny Gear
On my BSO, if I shift upwards then downwards I frequently have to use 2 clicks to go downwards 1 gear. Same thing happens in the opposite direction. I suspect that I have a slightly bent hanger that is causing it, aside of course from the 7 shifter for 6 gears. I live with it. When I get a decent bike & it does it I'll worry.
