Questions for The Ride Leader:
1. Is the route Brommie friendly?

It's recumbent-friendly, which in my experience isn't quite the polar opposite of Brommie-friendly, but it's close. (I'm struggling to think of what a Brommie-friendly ride would actually be. Two miles of gentle climbing with a train at the end, I suppose.)

It's flat. Expect potholes. And wind.

2. If so, could I use mine given my slow pace (despite spinning like a loon at times)?

Yes. It'll be reet.

I haven't finally decided but am contemplating riding up to York on Wednesday/Thursday - or maybe Thursday/Friday - and back from Hull on Monday. I'd probably use the LEL route.

Yup, get a reservation....

Which you can, of course, make online at http://www.hulltrains.co.uk at the same time as buying your ticket - one of the few TOC sites that lets you do this (thanks @Flying Dodo).

If travelling from Hull to, say, Doncaster for a connection to Birmingham, that service could well be on a https://www.northernrailway.co.uk train without the need to reserve a bike space. Which leads to a nice point: http://www.hulltrains.co.uk will sell you a ticket for Hull-to-Birmingham but won't let you make a reservation for a bike space on the Doncaster-to-Birmingham leg on https://www.crosscountrytrains.co.uk because you don't need one for the first leg from Hull-to-Doncaster. Should you buy the two legs separately (and be able, therefore, to reserve a bike space on the Doncaster-to-Birmingham leg), the cost is much much more than buying a through ticket! Isn't the rail ticketing system wonderful? #Brompton

Tickets bought. Heartfelt thanks to @Flying Dodo and @ianmac62 for the advice: Hull Trains website it is from now on, very helpful indeed.
Have paid £28.50 to be on the 17.00 out of King's Cross on the Friday, arriving in York at 18.50 where I'll meet an old friend who lives oop north and I haven't seen for years. Am hoping to persuade him to join us on the ride.
Returning from Hull.
for £9.90 !!!!!!!!!!
on the 13.31 train on Saturday with a bike space. Arrive London 16.11. I may need to doze for that journey if beer has been consumed.
