have been wondering about our pileated woodpecker this winter. but this morning while moving the cars for the snow plows I saw it! almost went back for a real camera but got this cell phone pic anyway

Tail is shown being very bushy and is clearly a different colour right at the tip and hip shape is different

To the casual observer, this might look like a long distance shot of an emu. No such luck in Gloucestershire, but even so it was the first time I have ever seen cranes in the wild. Spotted three big grey birds in a field not far from Slimbridge WWT on Friday. (Sorry about the photo ... my camera was chosen for its shock-proof and water-proof qualities rather than its zoom ability):

Well I left the camera out overnight and sue enough we had a visitor stroll along the path again same bushy tail with a different coloured tip but it wasn't a fox but just as @rockyroller said it was a pussy cat .

Will try again tonight from a different location

Today’s lunch visitor to the garden was a goldcrest, Britain’s smallest bird. Gorgeous little thing who likes our rosemary bush.
