Very poor quality pic of a distant female Blackcap, overwintering in our garden, taken through a dirty window.

She has occasionally fed from a nearer feeder (both with sunflower hearts) but I haven't managed to get a good shot; this male(?) (European) Goldfinch turned up within a couple of seconds of her departure yesterday.

Just back from 3 week holiday
My arrival did not go unnoticed - female Blackbird saw me in the kitchen and watched intently until I gave in and fed her.

Further down the garden, overwintering female Blackcap was taking a close interest in the Mahonia, which came into flower while we were away. I've noticed Blackcaps around this plant before and thought they were watching for visiting insects...

... but it's quite likely she's finding nectar to her taste. Note the floret in her beak.

I was working in a garden today when I spotted a leaf on the floor. I brought the leaf home with me as my eyesight is not what it was….

I looked through my loupe and a whole world appeared!

It’s a slime mold. I think it may be Physarum pusillum, but I’m not that educated on slime molds.

Anyway, the little lollipops were about 1mm tall.

I used my macro lens, and then cropped the image.

No picture, but a Barn Owl wafted across the road in front of me in the half light this morning about half a mile from home.
