Second and final ride of my short stay in Sussex this evening. A shame I had to drive about 25 miles to find a stretch of rideable coastline, but after checking it out on Google Maps, I think I chose wisely in parking up at the Ferring end of Marine Drive in Goring by Sea and riding off in the general direction of Brighton. Due to time constraints I only got as far as the pedestrian/cycle bridge across the river mouth in Shoreham by Sea before turning back, but it was quite enjoyable anyway. I have been trying to throw in as much of the British coastline as possible in my rides, so this was another short section added. Just the 21.7 miles ridden this evening, which included only about 10 miles of coastline, but ridden in both directions.

At Shoreham I was overtaken by a couple of fully laden touring cyclists, one of whom complimented me on my bike. "Nice Marin!" he shouted. "A real beast". I told him that was a coincidence as that is what I call it ("The Beast"). After Shoreham Fort:

.... I carried on around the headland and back to the pedestrian/cycle bridge across the river before turning for home.

I rode past my car on Marine Drive and around the corner into Ferring ...

Before packing up and driving back to West Wittering. It has been a great short stay here, allowing some nice drives along the coast and into the South Downs. Every evening we have been treated to an aerobatic display by a Spitfire flying out of Goodwood followed by a visit by a very inquisitive and curious little roe deer and a huge dog fox. Mrs.D has enjoyed relaxing here while I nip out for my cycling fixes. I discovered when I got back to the car that I have broken a spoke in my rear wheel. Bugger! That's both bikes needing a trip to the doctor now.

I couldn't ride to work yesterday, because I had to get a purchase from someone too far away from home, so it was great to get out in the evening. I was against the clock as I had to pick up my daughter at 9pm. I haven't ridden these roads in a while so I really enjoyed getting out on my own and being able to go as fast or as slow as I liked. The evening sun was amazing.
