Got out on Friday for a ride up to Downham Market and back to Ely working out at 78kms.

A lot warmer than expected so got a bit burnt on the arms and neck ; nice tailwind out bit harder on the way back.

Denver sluice on the way back;

40 odd miles with the Yaxley Riders today. I was going to limp home after a p'ture wouldn't seal but they convinced me to use my emergency tube.

From Clopton to Sawtry though isn't a straight line, rather I forgot to start the GPS for 10minutes 🤦‍♂️

I came back cleaned the tyre out and re-seated it dry with a track pump, showing how tiny the p'ture was. Filled it with Orange Seal which sealed the hole instantly, no mess. Unlike the Peatys which covered my bike in an luminous mess. It's good job it was a wet ride it cleaned the bike. Wrong bike though, I should have went with the fully guarded aluminium framed and wheeled bike though. An unguarded frame with Carbon rims wasn't confidence inspiring.

Headed out yesterday to try out a new route I'd picked from one of my apps, basically looped round Rutland Water and the surrounding villages...
After 5 or so miles the route tried to put me onto some fast A roads which looked iffy at best, so had to make up my own route with a phone signal that dropped out more and more...
It wasn't as far as I wanted but there were a lot of climbs so I chalked it up to a leg strengthening ride...

Put in a little extension on the way home only to be met with some big raindrops and a clap of thunder just at the top of the hill.

It's not a good place to be in a storm "ridge road" gives a clue, so I raced along and managed to outrun it, to my surprise. The view behind...

Then, much to my astonishment, somehow dodged the showers all around for the ~20 miles home, whereupon it promptly pissed it down!

25 miles, 700m climbing.

A rare midweek ride for me. I’ve blocked a few days in the next few weeks either for writing or riding if dry. Today just about past muster and I headed off through Ingleton along the old road to Clapham. The first surprise of the day was a new café in Clapham with a bike shop attached called Paul’s pedals. An excellent cup of coffee and chat with Paul took me through Austwick and across the Ribble. The big climb from Stainforth up to Malham didn’t seem too bad today although it was very cloudy and cooler on top. After a tour of the summit and the Tarn, I dropped down into Malham Village and then had a late lunch at the farm shop in Airton. After a very large toasted sandwich and some drizzle, the plan to cycle all the way back was shelved in favour of a train from Gargrave. Still 75 very enjoyable km with 1100 m of climbing.

Pictures contemplating the Strada Bianchi around Malham Tarn, the descent toward Malham and Gargrave station.

Just 24miles tonight, as I decided to keep my workout local. I'd p'tured on Sunday and it wouldn't seal with Peaty's which just made a mess. I came back on Sunday cleaned the tyre out. Seated it dry with a track pump, which confirmed it was a tiny, tiny (stress tiny) hole. I then sealed it with Orange Seal which was instant and there was no mess. The tyre stayed good tonight. The other thing of note the Conington Airfield road was closed at the narrow walled bridge, making it almost traffic free. Probably that 16.5m artic that got stuck on the Airfield road last week damaged the bridge trying to get out. There was one car who ignored the 'Road Closed' signs only to have to turn back at the bridge, the only thing that was getting through there was a bike 🤣

I went to Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. It's normally empty but the first floor was rammed because they've been having an Ozzy Osbourne exhibition since June. There were also people queuing up to sign a book of condolence for him. I don't know why they bothered, they should have just pissed against the Iron Man statue on New Street. It's what he would have wanted!

My Thursday group ride never happened so I did my scheduled workout down at Conington Airfield instead. They’ve put even more cones down and it was even tight for a bike at least the loop was nice and quiet. On my third lap I timed it just right (actually at first I thought Id timed it wrong. A bloke was walking towards that narrow gap and sped up as I approached it. The reason he sped up was to lift the cones out of the way 👍 and on my next time round I found he'd put them back but spaced better 👍👍
