And, as usual, it is nearly midnight and I am still online...

Right, computer off, TV on for a while, then try to get to sleep by 02:30 this time! :hello:

That's familiar too... also usually hammered by early waking / difficulty getting back to sleep... really makes a mess of the day

Just me and my mate turned up to the group ride today and despite there only being two of us it was quite fast.
Id left the summer wheels on but when I got back the bike needed a proper cleaning, so when they dry I'll put the winter wheels on!

Very short ride yesterday to retrieve my car after I got stuck in absolute gridlock due to roadworks at both ends of a local industrial estate that I was driving (or, at least attempting to) home from work..
I got so fed up that I parked the car, walked home the rode back on my Brommie in the evening..

Only about 3 miles but preferable to sitting in the car getting nowhere!

Finally got out after three weeks off the bike except for commuting. I wanted to get the 100 km challenge ride done in case weather became a problem later in the month. I headed north to explore the hills around Kendal and had a lunch stop at the bakery in Staveley. Lots of muddy roads and one heavy shower made me and the bike filthy. 103 km with1167 m of climbing.

I normally don't have to get up at a particular time (being a pensioner singleton whose time is his own!) but that makes it harder to stick to a sensible routine and fight my owl-like tendencies!

I thought we were supposed to tend more towards early rising as we aged?

My sleep pattern's certainly changed; although the one constant is that it's usually a mess for one reason or another...

No homestead return this week so after some much needed respite yesterday, today saw the week's second utility waft. A modest 20-ish miles just for the sake of getting out as it was so nice.

Naff all in the charity shops but I grabbed a bag of salad for next week’s lunches to avoid having to go to the shops tomorrow.

Did bump into my tow-path mate Adrian (I think!) from Swanquest 2025 and other exploits, so had a bit of a chat.

Later I passed the nonchalent heron, again doing a terrible job at trying to blend in with the ducks. It was initially on the path itself and wondered down to the water's edge to let me edge past.. after I'd stopped all of maybe 5 metres away to try and get some pics it wandered back out again. Had I had some of my better kit and there had been more light I could probably have got some pretty good shots; it's the second time I've seen it there so maybe I'll have another go at some point..

Dropped by the park for a go on the rings, however stopping to take photos in the plummeting post-dusk temperatures had given me quite a chill, while I was evidently still shafted from Monday’s session so I gave up after a couple of sets and went home.

Good to get out but glad to get back as I was cold and knackered by the end..

I reckon that people get bored and go to bed earlier so they then naturally get up earlier!?

I have the opposite issue - every time I am about to do one thing, something else distracts me so the original thing gets delayed, and delayed, and...

A ride out to an amazing temple in the province of Uthai Thani

It's true that temples here in Thailand can be samey, but this one is a bit special. Built into the side of a mountain, surrounded by jungle, and set in picturesque gardens. A few decades old, using reclaimed teak during its construction. Some of the floor planks are about three feet wide, very rare here now with modern teak farms felling trees long before they reach any sizeable girth. The temple is still being added to all the time, the reclining Buddha being a recent addition.

Always a distraction to delay sleep. Night owls!
A push under heavy looking skies to break 30 miles yesterday - I need to get out more!
Around a Ford and past the Bier House 🤪

Yes, again I can relate to that. Biggest issue IMO is doom-scrolling on electronic devices... mostly irrelevant crap just interesting enough to prevent you from putting it down and going to sleep, while the blue light ruins your biological clock. Really need to work on my sleep hygine as I never get enough quality sleep and it shows in daily life.

Have you tried enforcing a night time routine? I really need to put the bloody laptop down for a start but I've become so reliant on it for constant, low-level stimulation..

My Sunday group ride at this time of year heads to the King's Cliffe war memorial. Its was a very relaxed ride so not to drop the slower group riders who joined us. Suited me after a hard ride yesterday and Ive have a sore inside right ankle which I think I bashed or pulled a week ago. I also got away with my lighter bike without guards as the road were dry, but I don't think we'll get much more days like this year. Getting back at noon and the football not being until 4pm, I was tempted to go out for a gravel ride but given the ankle I decided to have a rest.

I am going to try hard during the winter. Getting up at 10:00-11:00 isn't too bad in the summer when there is still 10 or 11 hours of daylight left, but it is grim in the winter when it is dark by about 16:00!

As for 'My Ride Today'... I was slightly sub-par this morning with a sore throat and feeling a bit listless, so I decided not to go out for a ride. I saw a friend last week and she has been ill since so I may have picked up some lurgy from her. I don't fancy pushing my luck and ruining next week.

I have some tests to do on my turbo trainer set up, so I might do a very gentle short session on that just to make sure that everything is working okay.
