18 miler this afternoon around Mendlesham and Cotton. As gbb said " Not cold, not warm " but at least it was dry and the wind coming from the WSW so feeling a bit better perhaps. The fettling yesterday with the new RD cable and indexing was spot on. What was`nt spot on though was white van man who passed me only to stop a little way in front of me as there was a parked delivery van on the other side of the road. OK, I stopped and to my horror his reversing lights came on and I had to quickly dismount to get out of his way ! I did speak to him and said that surely you knew I was there as you`d only passed me about 10 secs before. He`d forgotten and was too busy reversing so the other van could get through ! Honestly, you`d never seen anybody dismount as quickly in your life !! Ride continued and averaged 16mph and it just started to spit with rain just as I was approaching home. Win, win,

Slight mechanical on the way when the rivets/bolts holding the rear mudguard (under the brake mechanism) snapped off! Maybe one was already broken & the other gave up!
Job for tomorrow morning..

16 miles, including a diversion to the farm shop on the way home..
Was thinking of getting an ice cream but, sadlt, it's closed at the beginning of the week ☹️

I needed to get out today and cycle somewhere new while avoiding having to fight the strong breeze. The solution was to get the train to Highbridge and follow the newish route to Yatton, with the wind behind me, then get the train back home.

Leaving the station took me towards the Parrett estuary and coast at Burnham.

In the distance Hinkley Point power station was visible.

I loved being back on the bike and soon settled into a steady rhythm.

Past caravan parks, marshes and bird hides and I arrived at Uphill and had a coffee.

Cycle.travel guided me through Weston-super-mare without any drama. More cycle paths took me to Yatton and the train home.

@All uphill and @PeteXXX : I'm planning on riding in those parts some time later this year. Going to take a mate over to Market Harborough to do the Brampton Way into Northampton and back, and I also plan to ride from Clevedon to Burnham on Sea and back as part of my ongoing series of coastal rides. Looking forward to both.

Today I just posted my 50km entry for the Half Century-a Month Challenge ... just my usual meanderings between Quedgeley, Whitminster, Frampton-on-Severn and Arlingham. Not the best of photos this time, but I wanted to show some views I don't usually record.

One of the duck ponds on the village green in Frampton. Out on my Marin mountain bike again:

A view from Arlingham towards the Severn Bore P.H. at Broadoak, with May Hill and the Forest of Dean beyond it:

Distant view of the houses up above on Overton Lane .... part of my return route and not far from where a munjac stepped out and casually crossed the road in front of me on my way out:
DSCF2296.JPG

Part of the new housing estate by the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal at Hardwicke .... which used to be an oil depot, visited regularly by sea going oil tankers that used to turn around in this inlet, now used for mooring canal boats:

Due to a combination of me putting on weight, getting less exercise and getting older, with a pretty stiff headwind at times too, this ride got me much more worn out than it should Have done. 31.7 miles (51km) in nice sunny weather. Plenty of horse riders out there, along with a couple of groups of elderly club cyclists making the most of the dry weather.

Third ride in three days...while mundane mileages, this is quite spectacular for me
Around 14 miles, ambling along country roads and through disused brickpits atno pace whatsoever.
Lots of wildlife out..
Greylag geese, Canada geese, probable little grebe, shovellers, mallard, spooked a couple skylarks up out of grass next to the track, one sklrark twittering away for all its worth nearby, roe deer, lots of peacock butterflies, two frittilaries, one notably smaller than the other, bumblebees a'bumbling, its all out there today.

You missed the bit about promotion of cycling. Nice pictures, Portugal is a lovely part of the world.

I got my brother out for his first ride of the year today.:hyper:

Just a short one around Shrewsbury to ease him back into it and with the promise of a cafe stop en route. To start with we headed round some of the local cycle paths to Sutton Lane then aiming towards the Abbey, along Underdale Road and our first crossing of the river at Telford Way. We returned along the other side of the river to the weir where there was a photo stop then along the riverside path, into The Quarry and up to Porthill Bridge where we had our stop at Cafe Evolution (nice view, okay coffee).

Doug had done pretty well so far considering it's probably five or six months since he was last out on his bike. Once we'd had our stop we carried on up to the Welsh Bridge, crossed the river there and returned to Porthill Bridge on the other side of the river using the path that side and the cycle contraflow on New Street. I offered a couple of routes to get back and Doug chose the flatter of the two; crossing back into The Quarry and retracing our steps to Greyfriars Bridge then heading out of town using that and Belle Vue Road.

A nice gentle ride on a fabulous Spring day. Doug did really well and I hope this will be the first of many rides together this year.

11.5 miles at 10 mph average.
