A brutal 4 lap forward hilly on Watopia where my times up the climb were 1:53, 1:53, 1:53 and 1:55. First time I've done more than 2 x sub 2 so pleased with personal milestone. There were 3 up the road although first 2 got DQ, so this was fight for eventual second. No one managed 10 w/kg for 15 secs in sprint which tells it's own story. Normalised Power matched FTP for 51 mins which is quite rare for me.

Pretty darned impressive result and times up the KOM. My goal is to get one sub2 let alone 4:notworthy: I am stuck at 2 :19

Dave, you ride at 100%? Or less? I know it makes no difference Watts wise it’s the gear changes as the gradient bites that catch me on this and also mountain KOM today.

10-15% I'd guess trying to minimize gear changes. You still feel the incline though so serves as a reminder that effort needs to increase. Think I stayed in same gear on hilly route until just before sprint where I moved to higher gear.

May well try that on tomorrow’s ride and then races next week.

I Had mine Set Set at 100% in a race on thursday . I was in second place to the Last climb . Then the 13 % slope came and i Had to drop right down the gears to get Up the hill , that cost me 10 places and my heart rate Hit maximum . So i now have it at about 75 % and it feels realistik . Only have to down to the small ring at about 7 % .

Might do the kiss 100 tomorrow if anyone fancys it . But Not yet Sure which one ..
I did KISS Americas 100km 2 weeks ago - 7 x box hill

6:47, 6:56, 7:03, 7:06, 7:17, 7:28 and 7:21

It was painful to say the least but satisfying all the same. Can't do it tomorrow because of work but hope to do it once or twice per month.

does changing the settings make any difference ? i have mine on 100 - from what I can gather it just reduces speed up hill without putting so much resistance on - what happens if you change gear and make it as hard as it usually is ?

I get the feeling that it is harder . I might be wrong . But i think when its at 100% it Harder to keep the Watts Up .if U know what i mean .

Watts are watts so should make no difference but... if you are more a climber with a climbers muscle build there is some suggestion you are better exploiting those muscle groups at 100% or near enough rather than spinning which is more likely at lower settings. I benefit from 100% or thereabouts - I am always a bit faster even as I fluff the gear changes. A time trial specialist might benefit from a Lower setting that allows seated cadence at equivalent of a tt effort. This may all bollux but I am not convinced the watts is watts is quite as straightforward as it seems.

just makes me wonder - i have got into the (bad ) habit of staying in big ring most the time and trying to mash any hill under 10mins long . now if it makes it feel easier i just wondered if i usually go up a hill at say 50/25, would i have to go to 50/21ish to A go the same speed /B feel the same resistance

suppose i could get off my backside and try couldn't i !
