Whilst there can be improvement in the scoring system WRTL, I do like the fact it makes it inclusive for a variety of riders.

Our last race we picked certain riders to go for certain points, it worked mostly. Heavy riders for the sprints, lighter rider for Kom points.

No disrespect to Alex but he would have probably only gained a few more places overall and not got KOM, if he just raced to finish well.

We used the rules as is to benefit the team and enable Alex to score extra points, giving him a personal victory.

There are so many varied riders within each category and one could argue fellas racing in their late 50s is not fair against guys in the 20 through to 40s in age and age weighting should be included, but it becomes ever more so complicated

We have to accept these anomalies of the system, game it best and use our own talents to garner the greatest points.

Just my thoughts:okay:

:laugh: You do talk some nonsense sometimes Andy. I’m going to have to assume you’re just trolling.

Well done, I suggest you have a go in a few shorter cat C events. Try your best to stick with the pack and this will bring you on in fitness. This will help promote you into C
I've been bumped up on zwift power now to cat C anyway . So I doubt my winning streak will continue 😂

Well done 👍

I think it’s more effective when being promoted from C to B because they’re larger fields but I always try to join races where all categories start together after promotion where I might not be able to hang with the pack all the way through the race. That way you will have another blob behind you (the D’s) that you can race after getting dropped (and after a while you won’t get dropped from the C group!)

I have no issue with the idea of the bucketed finishing positions, but the problem is they've got it arse about face. The smaller buckets should be at the top of the order, not the bottom - points should be awarded in a pyramidal fashion.

At present the top ten all get individual scores, though why there's a five point gap between the top 3, then one point gaps to 10th, followed by a three point gap to 11th is odd - I'd have spread those out to end up with something like 40, 35, 32, 30, 28, 26, 24, 23, 22, 21.

But then after that they come in buckets of 5 for no clear reason. These first few buckets should only have 2 or 3 riders in them max to make it more worthwhile to battle for those higher, but just outside the top ten positions. As you go further down the order, then you can start having larger buckets of 4 or 5 riders (probably that's as large as it should get though) but I wouldn't bring those in until you're well into lower placings, and I'm saying that as someone who would end up getting a lot less points this way!

Sorry for being a bit boring but a combination of taking Statistics at A level and an unhealthy obsession with game theory means that taking apart scoring systems is like catnip to me!

Certainly not boring in my eyes - you have a fantastic grasp of the stats and it's a great asset to CCC as shown in the last race. Thinking about it though if people were a bit bored with your initial post maybe this reply might bore them a bit too... ^_^

Seriously though you can get your head around the points systems far easier than most and it really helped us last race to devise a great race strategy. It might have even worked better if I had opened my office windows earlier and not died through heat exhaustion after sprint 2!!
