In races the power ups are sometimes banned, but not all races. This causes some riders to get annoyed as some play the game of trying to get the aero power up and take it into races. This power gives a huge advantage apparently during the final sprint and can be the difference between winning and losing a race.

I saw this in a KISS race - 4 lap on Watopia Hilly. I was in a lead group of C ride coming up to the end of the 3rd lap when we were caught up by the A group just as they were finishing their final lap - so I was in a prime position to witness their sprint.
I'm guessing I saw 12 guys with their aero helmets on.

I used power ups yesterday properly, I had 2 featherweights and one aero. The featherweights just helped me keep with the pack on horse guards climb, despite me pushing high 300's to mid 400Watts I was still going backwards. I like the fact the avatar goes super slim when you select featherweight:biggrin: I bet Lee would vanish if he selected it:laugh:

Looking at my ride yesterday on Zwiftpower, I was within 17secs of getting to 7th. Now its still a country mile but reachable. I need to dig in deeper for these bursts near the end 500+Watts and then relax for the sprint

in all honesty - i THINK i used 2 little red crosses - not sure what they do but they were given to me
i pressed them as soon as they came on screen as they disappear quick
i may have used 3 of them but that is all i was given - i wasnt given the nice ones
far as i am concerned feel free to use them - if the others say no then i will do it again without
but may wait to see what times come in

Just read on the other side that BRVR is going to introduce payment next year - what are your thoughts
personally i think i will go for it even though i havent used them that much
i think they offer nearly what we had in bkool but it works , 3 accounts per household
and when i get round to it i can put my own rides on there
i have stopped bkool and cancelled strava premium so i aint actually going to be spending much more if any

Reading that was like listening to a client:biggrin:

Key words are Honesty, Think, May , 2 and then 3,

Lee, TBF I think Andy’s failure to set terms and conditions means it’s all up for grabs. Unless you want to do it “clean” if course

So, power ups allowed on the CC Zwift challenge?
Will those who have completed the challenge confirm whether they used them or not?

No! It's essentially a TT. Stop looking for an advantage. Get on and do it

TT, also known as a; TurboTommy, is the bastion of all things honesty, pure, and good. Also see ‘Best of British’, and ‘chivalry’.^_^

Seriously though... @berty bassett, that books sounds dreadful!

With regards the power ups I’d say use them, but I’ll respect any decision made, and this is Andy’s challenge. I don’t really like them in principle but if they’re in the game....

Why is it sometimes you don’t end with one when it’s doing the fruit machine roulette thing? Do you have to click/ touch on the icon as they’re rotating through?

I don't how the 'power up' work, it just appears. I select it by pressing space bar, used up in 15 secs. I got the timing all wrong when using them. I personally don't want to have them in the races, however if it allows riders(including me) to stay with a pack instead of being dropped it makes for a more exciting punishing race. The benefits seem very marginal but small margins can make the difference. I know I have out sprinted a rider using a 'aero' helmet, so they don't give riders warp speed compared to others. Careful use can help though.

It would bother me more if I was racing at the sharp end I think. It’s random so favours the weaker riders in a race, where the fastest guys are relying on form over luck. I don’t think there’s a place for it if you want to take it seriously, but like you say, if it helps you stay with a group it helps you push harder from a personal level. And maybe it will stop me taking it TOO seriously which is a good thing!

I don’t mind if people use them. I am not sure I have found them that useful when I have, except to creep past 98kmh coming down Watopia but that only added 3-4kmh.
Some people find them effective to use on a sprint start or on sprints at the finish. Didn’t Dave do so recently?
