Apologies in advance if I can't remember who you all are! I tend to remember people after meeting them 3 or 4 times, but there are going to be so many strangers that I am bound to get confused tomorrow! Wear name tags, or tag your bike and I stand a chance. I tagged my Cannondale, but didn't like the look of it, so I took the tag back off.

You will recognise me. I look just like the guy on the left, only older, balder, greyer, iller, and wearing yellow glasses rather than sunglasses. Look out for the retro red Cannondale with the guy who looks taller than most of the other riders, save for the two big Steves and maybe one or two tall newbies! I think I will be wearing my 3/4 length baggy Endura Humvees, and I will have on a blue/black peaked MET helmet with CycleChat stickers on the sides.

Ah, you are coming by one of the scenic routes ... Bowland Knotts, Gisburn Forest by any chance?
sounds about right.

Bad news. Cleaning my bike today I found a 4 cm split just starting in the rear rim. My front tyre is also in need of changing (there's only so many times you can dig bits of glass out of it).

Good news. I dug my old Mavic Aksiums out of the garage and slung them on instead. It means i'm running 23cc instead of 25cc Gatorskins and no longer have a dynamo to run my light but I think i'll just about manage.

Bike all cleaned, lubed, adjusted and indexed. Now to dig out my MiddleAgeCyclist tag from LEL out and attach it.

I'm bringing a cycling buddy as well. Peter (the Goat) Haigh. No doubt he'll leave me for dust at the first sign of a hill (coz he really likes hills) but he's a top bloke. We are cyling up from Manchester but I expect we'll be at Spring Wood for 09:30-09:45 at the latest.

See you tomorrow.

Well spotted!

That's another reason to keep your bike clean - spotting problems at home rather than out on the road.

I found a problem on my bike a few years back which could have had lethal consequences. My left crank had a big crack coming from one corner of the square taper. A crank snapping at the wrong moment could be extremely nasty!

Just back to Kiwi Sal's from The Fell bike shop in Whalley where dr pink was looking at her next bit of bike porn while (name dropping) Rob Hayles made me a coffee, just brilliant couldn't make it up.
We are riding in from Hoghton, if time I may go via Read to pay my respects. Look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.
