Some people call them cassette tapes.

Some of us still listen to them, mind you in 1985 the Maxell XL11 90s were the best part of £3 each. (still sound good 30yrs on though)

Sorry but no deal. It is a diminutive of case and clearly only refers to the container; except in popular usage of course, where your interpretation wins hands down.

The trademark name was "Compact Cassette" - I don't think I ever heard anyone call them that, just the shortened version - cassette. So cassette refers to the entire structure, not just the case.

I tested it (when nobody was looking) and it works .

Left = snot
Right = sweat.

The term 'clipless pedal' made perfect sense at the time.

The term I wonder about is 'enamel paint'. Enamel is coloured glass that's been fired to fuse it. Enamel paint seems to be completely unrelated.

Enamel is any hard glossy paint. Powdered glass is vitreous enamel

Never really understood why a top is a 'jersey'. Suggests a knitted garment to me.
