This person claims a 14% higher chance of injury with a helmet based on studies (no idea which ones, about halfway through) --

Would like to know how bike helmets are tested, and if what was said is accurate (and I'll read the study and decide)

Interested in UK, NL, USA, & AU

Seems different everywhere -- http://www.quora.com/Australia/Why-are-bike-helmets-compulsory-in-Australia

After all, cardboard helmet passes safety test http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/cardboard-helmet-passes-safety-tests-35999/

fyi, i've never worn a helmet in my life (ruins my hair!)

good links are good!!

I've had a quick shufty at these threads and all of them contain masses of good info. I don't think you should expect a definitive answer to any of these type of questions as they all lead to people personal preferences or are are unanswerable such as how much to drink exactly as there is no exact answer.

I don't know about studies and such but I can only say from my own experience that my helmet has helped protect my skull & grey matter when I took a bad tumble almost 2 weeks ago.

Call me a scaredy cat or not keeping with the times but i'm not riding w/out my helmet

How much info do you need?

There is a US based site called the Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute which has lots of information in their standards section.

Basically the toughest (although it has been claimed by some to be out of date) is the Snell B95, and the weakest is the UK / European EN1078. Some organisations do not even recognise the EN1078 as being adequate. You cannot race inthe US with an EN1078 helmet, and some British organisations specify higher standards for use in their events.

We are all welcome to our opinion, and the nice this is we have choice. Mine mind was made up 20+ years ago.

"If cycle helmets are effective in reducing head injury, it seems reasonable to expect that the reductions
in injuries would be reflected in the general casualty statistics, particularly in places where helmet use
has become significant. There is no indication that this is the case.
With more than 2 out of 5 cyclists now wearing helmets in London, it is difficult to see what greater
use of helmets would be necessary to achieve noticeable casualty reductions, particularly if the more

optimistic predictions for the effectiveness of helmets are correct."

A buddy come of his bike cracked his head and got taken into hospital and I suppose a case was written up, I clipped a kerb after being driven at by a car and nutted that pavement damaging my helmet but not my head, I did not report the non injury, do you think I should have done. Just to keep statistics correct or something like that.
