First of all, after buying my bike online, I received no communication about when it was to be delivered. So I was at work when they attempted to give me my bike the first time. I asked them to reschedule as I'd been given no advance warning of the delivery at all.

They agreed and then said they'd deliver it the next day (Friday). Soon after this, I received an odd call from someone purporting to be from the warehouse telling me that they didn't like having bikes hanging around in the warehouse as they "tended to go missing".

Friday came and went. No delivery.

The entirety of Saturday was spent trying to contact Evans' customer service via facebook but I got no response.

I got a response on Sunday which was little more than "yeah, we need to wait for the warehouse to respond".

Monday rolled round and I was eventually assured that my bike would be delivered by the end of the day.

Reader, it wasn't delivered at all.

After chasing this AGAIN on Tuesday, I was eventually told, at the end of the day, that they were going to have to search the warehouse for my bike and that this might take "a few days". To be honest, after the phone call I received on the previous Thursday, I'm not at all certain that it's in the warehouse - more than likely it'll be on ebay now.

In short, just an awful company who are more than happy to grab your cash but customer service is an utterly alien concept to them.

Used to good but now are pretty hopeless. I wonder when that started
What happened in the end?

That’s one of the very few companies on my blacklist.

They screwed up an order of mine last year by cancelling it without telling me and then lying repeatedly for months about having refunded me. They hung onto my money for over five months before I eventually got it back. I’d never trust them again.👎

I bought my bike from them 5years ago and the service was great and so is the bike. The last time I was in my local store, about a year ago, it just seemed different. Is this the Mike Ashley effect.

Ashley is a commoditiser. He might as well be selling fridges or washing machines, it's just another sale and a few more quid through the accounts. Customer satisfaction doesn't seem to figure high on their list of aims. In fact AO would probably make a much better retailer of bikes and sporting goods, than Evans and SD, as I never hear them slagged off in anything like the same way as any of Ashley's outfits.

I've always thought that it's a shame he got his hands on the once great Karrimor brand, now I wouldn't go near it.

Good rant!

Best one here since the Saga of the Stuffed Crust Pizza!

I had a strong feeling of deja vu reading the initial post. Don't know why but sure I read something similar recently, especially the bit about searching the warehouse.

Yes. Ashley buys businesses that are in trouble. Evans was going bust. He purchased it as a pre-pack, closed half the stores and sacked half the staff. Those remaining will be on minimum wage where possible, and the business will be run to be as profitable as possible without spending any money. This may have had an impact on the morale of the remaining workers.
