I just ride a bike. When I want, where I want & how I want.

Anything else is superfluous.

A serious cyclist cycles to make gains. Same way a bodybuilder goes gym to build muscle/strength. Or anyone partaking in sports activities, you usually want to improve your performance over time.

Leisurely cyclists are just happy sitting on a bike plodding about. A serious cyclist gets his from performance improvements. It's that simple, serious cyclist = serious business.

Why single out cyclists as being "serious"?
Is someone a "serious motorist", because they spend hours travelling up and down the M1 or M6 or are too f*****g lazy to use anything other than their cars to travel all but the most minor of distances and then after a few years they become a drain on the NHS with "serious" self inflicted health problems.

Curious as to how @blazed would regard the following:
179 miles to Holyhead. Caught the ferry over to the North Wall(Dublin), I cheated, I know.
From there a further 130-135 miles down to the West Coast.
For me it was a bit of fun, on a touring bike. All within a 24 hour period.
