Hi looking to buy a n+1.a drop bar one this time been having a look at some of the reviews on line etc. cant make up my mind if they are all really impartial. is it worth taking a look at the entry level carbon bikes or go with the big boys alloy versions I. E. trek madone 2.1 or 2.3. Any advice. Would be gratefully received

I've got a defy 3 and love it @£700 so spending a grand on a defy 1 personally would be my 1st choice!! But also would certainly window shop. Seen a lovely £2500 carbon today in in Bike logic Helsby waaay outta my league.

3 different Triban 3's.
A commute one (Knobbly tyres)
A shopping one (with panniers)
A weekend one (Resprayed in full team colours)
And you'll still have money left over for 33 pairs of Aldi cycling glasses.
Whoever said "less is more" was a tit!

Giant Defy 1 is well worth considering.
Tested one last year, very nice!
Would have got one, but got fed up with waiting for them to be in stock.
So I got a TCR instead.

Personally, I wouldn't trust reviews as far as I can throw them. They're about as impartial as the posts above ;)...

Anyway, I think you already know the answer to this. Try your intended purchases and see how they feel to you. I ended up with a Canondale CAAD8.

They're under-specced and over-priced tat. There you go... I said it!
